Waiters Challenge to bring thrills and spills to heart of Surfers Paradise

Surfers Paradise Variety Waiter’s Challenge dashes through the heart of Surfers Paradise on Saturday, June 24. A collaboration between the Surfers Paradise Alliance, The Avenue and Variety Queensland, the challenge will see waiters from more than 20 Surfers Paradise restaurants, cafés and bars will race against the clock, and each other, as they tackle an obstacle course that will test their agility, accuracy and speed. Aiming to be crowned the fastest waiter in town, contestants will try not to spill a drop of wine or smash a single plate as they traverse tricky terrain in Cavill Mall from 3pm. Each waiter will be sponsored with all funds raised going to the charity Variety Queensland, which helps disadvantaged and special needs children. Awards will be given to the restaurant whose contestant raises the most money for charity and to the waiter who exhibits the finest skills, and least spills, during the challenge. Food preparation will also be in the spotlight as the ‘Chefs of Surfers Paradise’ hold pop-up cooking displays in the lead-up to the main event. Guest chefs from four prominent Surfers Paradise restaurants including Salt Meats Cheese, The Avenue, Tandoori Place and Melbas will share their culinary tips and tricks during lively cooking demonstrations on the kitchen stage in Cavill Mall from 10am until noon.
