Two-time Bathurst 1000 champion Will Davison has clinched his first pole position in almost two years, narrowly beating Saturday night’s race winner Chaz Mostert by a mere 0.0007 seconds in today’s Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout.
Davison, who drives the Shell V-Power #17 Ford Mustang, executed a flawless lap in the Shootout to secure his 29th career pole. This achievement elevates him past Dick Johnson, placing him 10th on the all-time pole position list in Supercars history.
Davison, who lives on the Gold Coast, will start in the front row alongside Mostert. Following them are Nick Percat, Cam Waters, Anton De Pasquale, Will Brown, Tim Slade, James Golding, Ryan Wood, and David Reynolds, who completes the top ten.
This marks Davison as the 8th different driver to claim pole in 2024 and the fourth Ford driver to secure the top spot from qualifying/shootouts.
Davison finished fourth last night, trailing the all-Ford trio of Mostert, Matthew Payne, and Thomas Randle. This afternoon’s race will be a gruelling 51-lap event at Sydney Motorsport Park, where tyre management will be pivotal for all drivers.
Championship leader Will Brown continues to lead by 96 points from Red Bull teammate Broc Feeney. However, Mostert is steadily closing the gap, now just 126 points behind in the Repco Supercars Championship.
The Panasonic Air Conditioning Sydney SuperNight will conclude with Race 16 this afternoon at 4:05 pm. The event will be broadcast exclusively live on Foxtel and Kayo, with highlights available on 7plus and the Seven Network.
