In a dramatic twist ahead of the Bathurst 1000, Will Davison’s #17 Ford Mustang is back on track after a serious crash during yesterday’s qualifying session. As Davison approached The Dipper on Mount Panorama, the Mustang spun out of control, colliding with the wall and eventually slamming into the concrete barrier.

The crash, which registered a massive impact of over 58g, initially appeared to spell the end for Davison and co-driver Kai Allen’s race hopes. The damage seemed extensive, with concerns about how far it had reached into the car’s internals.

Despite this, the Shell V-Power Racing Team received a special curfew extension and worked tirelessly through the night to repair the Mustang. Their hard work has paid off, as the car is now ready to hit the track for today’s practice sessions.

Though Will qualified in sixteenth place due to the crash, he won’t be participating in this afternoon’s Top Ten Shootout. However, the focus is now on his co-driver, Kai Allen, who will take the Mustang for a spin in the co-driver practice session.

Team Principal Ryan Story shared his excitement early this morning, posting on Instagram at 5 a.m., “See you in the co-driver practice session, Kai Allen. Mammoth effort once again by the Shell V-Power Racing Team.”

Here is hoping the repairs hold strong, all eyes will be on how the #17 Mustang performs in the lead-up to tomorrow’s great race.
