If you’re like me, you’re ambitious, driven and eager to go places with your career. And what better place to build your dream professional life than on Australia’s glistening Gold Coast?
I don’t know about you, but I personally love a relaxed beach lifestyle, warmer weather and blissful Summer nights spent outdoors soaking up the balmy evening breeze, cold beverage in hand. Drinks on the patio overlooking the sea, anyone? What about a day party on a yacht out on the shimmering water? I also enjoy more simple sunny day pursuits – like taking my towel for a short trek down to the local beachfront and parking myself on the sand for the afternoon, my coconut-fragranced tanning oil sizzling in the sun. If, like me, this sounds like a perfect paradise to you; you’ll enjoy this idyllic lifestyle, and more, on Queensland’s Gold Coast.
To reality now, though: what jobs can you do there? Yes, I know you’re wondering how you’ll be able to fund your glitzy Gold Coast lifestyle. Of course, unless you’re a trust fund baby, we all need a well-paying job to support ourselves! But apart from this, I truly believe that money is not the only important thing about being a successful working professional. To me, my career should also be rewarding, and fulfilling, and bring a sense of meaning and purpose to my life.
Here’s a list of six of the top jobs you can get on the Gold Coast.
1. Being a Teacher
So, how do you become a teacher on the Gold Coast? The first and arguably most important step is getting a relevant qualification in teaching – such as a Masters in Education – from a reputable Australian university.
Once you’ve attained your teaching degree, the next step is to do your teaching rounds! This essentially involves completing your professional placements, and you’ll likely need to visit various schools around the area as part of this process. Sometimes, you might be required to go out to teach at schools in remote country towns. In my opinion, this is a great opportunity to discover more of rural Queensland before starting your full-time teaching gig back on the Gold Coast.
2. Working as a Tour Guide on the Gold Coast
If you’re a tour guide on the Gold Coast, you certainly won’t be at a loss in terms of the abundance of enticing local attractions you’ll be able to take your clients to!
From the excitement of the ‘Wet and Wild’, ‘Seaworld’ and ‘Dreamworld’ theme parks, to guided boat cruises out to the dreamy, sunkissed Stradbroke Island, or, for more discerning travellers, a visit to the Skypoint Observation Deck for views of the Gold Coast from 230 metres high – the touring possibilities here are endless.Â
3. Being a Nursing Professional
With Gold Coast Health’s very recent $1.9 million infrastructure spend in 2023, there’s no doubt that the current demand for Queensland nurses is exceptionally high. This demand can be attributed to the rapid increases in the region’s population and the growing need for a bigger pool of medical staff to treat them.Â
4. Working in Construction
What could be more Aussie than being a tradie on the Goldie? If you choose to work in construction on Queensland’s golden shores, you can rest assured that you will be paid well. Especially, for instance, if you work for the union. Â
5. Being a Social Worker
As a social worker on the Gold Coast, your expected earnings will also be relatively high. In fact, in this profession, you can expect to earn as much as $96,000 annually.
As well as this, your work will also be very rewarding, as you will often be supporting and assisting underprivileged, marginalised and down-and-out members of society – people who really need our help.Â
6. Working as an Accountant
If you have an interest in finance, you can always find work as an accountant on the Gold Coast. Gold Coast locals love to splash out, and they’ll need your expertise to help manage their funds so they can support their lavish lifestyles.
Of course, these are just six of the top jobs you can get on the Gold Coast. For sure, there are many more – and making the decision to live and work on Queensland’s dreamy golden coastline will be one you certainly won’t regret.
