The Langham, Gold Coast, is excited to introduce their new Executive Pastry Chef, Johann Vanier. Drawing inspiration from his French heritage, Chef Johann will delight guests with a delectable ‘Taste of France’ afternoon tea experience, starting from June 1, 2023.

Hosted in the renowned Palm Court of The Langham, this afternoon tea extravaganza showcases a rich tapestry of French gastronomy, expertly crafted using the finest locally-sourced Australian ingredients. Guests will have the pleasure of indulging in a selection of sweet and savory desserts that embody the essence of French cuisine.

John O’Shea, General Manager of The Langham, Gold Coast, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We’re thrilled to welcome Chef Johann’s remarkable expertise and innovative approach to the art of pastry-making. The Langham brand has become synonymous with the tradition of afternoon tea since it was first served at The Langham London in 1865. With Chef Johann’s arrival, we aim to elevate the experience by infusing the craftsmanship of French Patisserie.”

Chef Johann, having honed his culinary knowledge in some of the world’s finest Michelin-starred French restaurants, is set to bring a new level of sophistication to the heritage afternoon tea offering at The Langham. He said, “Guests can expect to be mesmerized by the presentation of four signature French savory and sweet desserts, incorporating a unique twist of Australian ingredients.”

One of Chef Johann’s personal recommendations is the Tarte Tatin, a reinterpretation of the quintessential French dessert. This version uses Queensland pineapples, nestled in a buttery pastry shell, as a delightful alternative to the traditional apple-based recipe. For those seeking a savory option, the Croque Madame provides a sophisticated twist on the classic French sandwich. It combines the rich and nutty flavor of Heidi Gruyere cheese with layers of creamy bechamel sauce, topped with a perfectly cooked sunny-side-up quail egg, all served on lightly toasted bread.

The ‘Taste of France’ afternoon tea experience with Johann Vanier will be available throughout the month of June. However, due to its popularity, there are only a limited number of seatings available each day. Weekday prices are set at $109 per person, while weekend prices are $119.
