Now well underway at Burleigh Heads, the surf has delivered pumping three-to-five-foot waves, setting the stage for a high-stakes day of heats at Stop No. 6 on the 2025 World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT).
By 8:46 a.m., the women’s Round of 16 has already kicked off with a blockbuster opening match-up between Gabriela Bryan (HAW) and Luana Silva (BRA). Both surfers have been standouts throughout the 2025 season and are eyeing another strong result at Burleigh.
A major highlight looms in Heat 5 of the women's Round of 16, with eight-time World Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) set to take on reigning World Champion and current World No. 2 Caity Simmers (USA). The clash promises fireworks as two generations of champions go head-to-head on Gilmore’s home turf.
On the men’s side, proceedings are set to begin with Heat 1 of the Round of 32 featuring Brazilian countrymen Yago Dora and Edgard Groggia. The local crowd will be paying close attention to Heat 5, where Aussie hopefuls Ethan Ewing and Morgan Cibilic are scheduled to face off. Both surfers have carried strong momentum from Bells Beach into the early rounds on the Gold Coast.
With ideal conditions now in play and heats running at 30 minutes each, the event is poised for a full day of world-class surfing.
