Gold Coasters it’s time to say ‘salud’ at La Diosa Mexicana the newest dining hot spot that’s arrived at Circle on Cavill.
The newly opened Mexican restaurant and bar officially opened its sleek doors last week and has been serving up sizzling Mexican feasts and salt-encrusted margaritas on the regular ever since.
The venue showcases a clean, modern and resort style fit out featuring a great selection of indoor and alfresco seating options, not your typical tex-mex eatery.
The vibe is more Cancun than cantina with an abundance of cacti and succulents growing in white pebbled gardens providing a brilliant contrast against rich brown leather bench chairs and ambient feature lighting. The mood is festive, yet there is not a sombrero in sight.
La Diosa Mexicana co-owner Danny Azzi is a Gold Coast restauranteur and chef with over 20 years’ experience in the industry. With a love of the clean, fresh flavours typical of Mexican cuisine coupled with his Lebanese heritage, Mr Azzi says diners at La Diosa Mexicana can expect a different take on traditional Mexican cuisine that is sure to delight.
‘We are passionate about fresh, clean flavours created from produce that is sourced locally,” says Mr Azzi.
“The centrepiece of our menu is our delicious Tacos made with a different Al Pastor-style meat – a traditional dish developed in central Mexico based on the shawarma spit-grilled meat that was introduced to Mexico by the Lebanese.
“We marinate the meat overnight in Mexican spices, fresh lime juice, and pineapple juice before slow cooking it the next day resulting in an intense flavour that provides the perfect base for our La Diosa Mexicana tacos.”
The extensive menu reads like a Mexican dream filled with traditional Mexican favourites with a La Diosa Mexicana twist. Botanas, Tostadas, Tacos, Ensaladas, Burritos, Quesadillas, and Platos Fuertes make is almost impossible to select the one dish to enjoy, instead encouraging the selection of several plates for a table to sample and share.
Seafood lovers will also be delighted with must-try prawn Tacos, Baja snapper and even Corona battered salmon and scallops matched perfectly with plenty of tasty accompaniments including mango salsa, coriander crema, and rich tomatillo salsa.
Because Mexican and margaritas go together like tequila and salt, La Diosa Mexicana has a specially curated bar menu featuring margaritas along with traditional cocktails, local and imported beers, ciders, wine, tequila, and mezcals.
Here diners have the choice of almost a dozen margaritas ranging from the traditional favourite made with zingy fresh lime juice through to Chilli Chocolate made with tequila, chocolate liquor, cream, chilli, orange juice, lime juice, and chocolate bitters.
Beer drinkers can find local craft beers from Balter, Black Hops and Stone and Wood amongst favourites sourced from Mexico and Spain including Corona and Ambar while the wine list is predominately derived from Argentina and Spain. For those who are partial to a jug of Sangria, La Diosa Mexicana import their offering directly from Spain.
And then there is the tequila menu. Boasting over 30 varieties of tequila and mezcal, diners are sure to find a new favourite behind the bar at La Diosa Mexicana. For tequila beginners or those who love to taste test, flights are available in three 20ml shot tastings.
Dessert may not be a common association with Mexican cuisine, but La Diosa Mexicana is changing this rule with a dessert menu that can’t be overlooked. The Flaming Cacti is the perfect share dessert created with sweet corn and salted caramel ice cream bomb, blueberries, flamed with Mezcal.
La Diosa Mexicana joins a celebrated list of renowned eateries located within Circle On Cavill including Knox Dining, Poke California, Royal Dynasty, San Churro Chocolateria, Dumpling Noodle on Circle, along with entertainment precinct Strike Bowling Bar, and Holey Moley Golf Club.
