Behind the Scenes with Justice Crew: Life on the Road and Musical Inspirations

Dive into the world of Justice Crew as they share their experiences, from training on the streets of Sydney to becoming household names

Earlier this month, we sat down and had a chat with the guys from Justice Crew, and here is what they had to say!

As a group, who were your greatest influences musically, and do they differ significantly between group members?

As a group, we all have different influences that we look up to, but as a whole, we would say the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. The way he moves is unique, sharp, and explosive!

When on the road, what music is in the Justice Crew CD stacker? Do you fight over the music you guys listen to?

When Justice Crew is on the road, each member has their headphones in, listening to their own music. Reggae, heavy metal, hip-hop, pop… you name it, someone in the group would love that type of music!

What is your crew more passionate about: your dancing or music? Or would you say that without the perfect balance of both, Justice Crew would not be what it is now?

We’re passionate about dancing for sure, and when the opportunity came along to sing, we felt the same way as we did with dancing. So having the two to work with is amazing!

Do you think not having the same money and rehearsal spots as your competitors, and being “street smart” by using the mirror-like windows at the Sydney Entertainment Centre, gave you an edge over others due to your commitment as a group and improvisational training?

Before winning the show, we had a goal, and the show was our opportunity to show Australia and the world who we are! We sacrificed a lot! With the help of our family and friends, we made it happen for us! Now we feel like we can give back and make our family and friends proud of how far we have come! Also, with the help of spaces in Sydney, we can just practise anywhere we can!

Given your current status, do you guys still get nervous before a performance?

We get nervous all the time! When we hear the crowd chanting “Justice Crew! Justice Crew!” it blows us away! And also, at the same time, it makes us excited, so it’s 50/50 on that one.

I see you guys were interested in working with youths in similar circumstances to yours with dancing classes, etc. Did you end up getting this in motion? If not, is this something you are still interested in doing?

Yeah, we’re still doing the classes. That’s where our hearts are at. We turn up when we can when we’re not away and just drop in, which is so cool! We’re also starting up an online tutorial, step-by-step, for the kids to learn from!

How much has your life changed since you went from training outside the Sydney Entertainment Centre to sold-out events?

This whole experience is crazy! We’re still on a rollercoaster. We like flying everywhere around Australia, where before we were at Pitt St, busking for lunch and a train ticket! So reminiscing from now back is unbelievable!

What did it feel like the moment you realised you had won Australia’s Got Talent? How long did it take to really sink in?

It just felt like our hard work had paid off, and it felt emotional at the time. To be honest, it still hasn’t sunk in.

Has your party life increased and improved since your careers have taken off?

Whenever we go out for a dance, the bouncers and club owners love us! Sometimes we’ll put on a show and make a circle, which is always fun!

How did it feel when you realised that you were getting $250,000 in winnings to split up between you?

When we split the money up, that had to be the most that has been in our accounts, lol. So we split it between each member and then invested money into our classes!

What was the craziest thing any of you did with your prize money?

Nothing crazy, just clothes and cars. We had a lot of people giving us good advice on how to use the money for good!

Who writes the lyrics for your songs?

All songs get pitched to us from producers all over the world.

Being self-taught, do you think it was more of a struggle for your crew to gain confidence and respect? Or did this make it easier for you guys to make your mark?

Yeah, because each member in the group is different and has something in their dancing that could come from their background. It just adds something different to the group so we could all just work around it!

Are there any artists you would like to work with in the future?

We all have different opinions. Anyone who will bring something different would be amazing!

What is the plan for Justice Crew in the next year?

Hopefully, another tour and more songs!

Now a couple of relaxed questions:

Who’s single, who’s taken, and who is looking?

That’s a question you should ask when you meet us in person, lol.

So you heard that, ladies. Permission granted to ask away!

On the road, who has the most annoying habit?

Everyone in the group has an annoying habit, lol.

What do you want to see your fans doing at your next shows?

Everyone dressed in Justice Crew merchandise, head to toe!

And for all things Justice, check out…
