Today was a tale of the rookie and the champ, with Redbull Ampol Racing’s Broc Feeney claiming his first-ever victory in Holdens Last Race and teammate Shane van Gisbergen being awarded his third Championship.
The 20-year-old, in his rookie year, has had some lofty expectations placed on his shoulders, following in the footsteps of seven-time champion Jamie Whincup who is also his boss at the Banyo outfit.
But if you had to give a grade to the rookie in his first year, it is an A+, with the Gold Coaster finishing sixth in the championship, securing multiple podiums and his first victory in the last race of the season.
Today’s victory meant a whole lot to the team, with many in tears, including ” retire ” Team Principle Roland Dane, who commented it was eerily similar to the victory for Jamie Whincup on debut for the team back in 2006.
We are excited to see Broc’s progression in 2023 when the whole field moves to new equipment with the introduction of the Gen 3 car when all drivers are on the same vehicle experience level.
