Gold Coast native Cody Simpson is officially back in the recording studio, releasing his highly anticipated new single “Fluent” via Range Music and BMG. The track arrives alongside an original music video directed by Antony Muse.
This latest drop marks his third single for 2026, perfectly continuing the momentum he built following the breakout double release of “Baby Blue” and “When It Comes to Loving You” back in March. The new track showcases the artist in a characteristically confident form, but it also carries a sharp sense of irony that the singer is quick to acknowledge.
Currently awaiting surgery for a vocal injury, Simpson has been placed on strict vocal rest. Yet, “Fluent” is a song heavily focused on themes of communication, expression, and body language. It is a contrast that gives the release a wry new dimension.
Addressing his fans, Cody Simpson shared his thoughts on the timing:
“Dealing with this vocal cord surgery has been a blow, but it won’t stop me dropping music. So glad I was able to put the finishing touches on Fluent, a track I’ve loved for some time. The irony of the lyrical content wasn’t lost on me either considering I’m on vocal rest, and all I’ve got right now is body language! Hah. Hope you enjoy this one.”
A Triumphant Return to Music
For fans who have followed his unique journey, this musical comeback has been a long time coming. In 2020, the multi-talented artist made international news when he chose to step away from the entertainment industry to chase a lifelong dream of becoming an elite competitive swimmer.
Moving back to Australia, he earned a well-deserved spot on the Australian National Team in 2022. He competed at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, where he reached the 100m butterfly final and took home Gold and Silver medals in relay events. He even captured multiple Australian Short Course Titles and a Silver medal at the 2023 World Cup in Athens. After narrowly missing qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympic Team, he officially announced his retirement from the pool and set his sights firmly back on his musical roots.
What Is Next for Cody Simpson..?
Now based in Los Angeles again, the recording artist and former Broadway star has plenty more music on the way. From his early days signing with Atlantic Records on his 13th birthday, to performing in Opera Australia’s 2025 production of Guys and Dolls, Simpson has constantly reshaped his career. With “Fluent” out now, it is abundantly clear that he is not letting a temporary vocal setback silence his artistic return.
