It has been over a decade since Danny Lakey last graced the city’s airwaves, but now he’s back and joining Bianca and Ben in the 90.9 breakfast studio from early next month.
The move back to the Gold Coast signals a full circle story for Lakey, who got his first chance in commercial radio working at 90.9 Sea FM driving the sea cruiser and operating the graveyard shift in 2012
“I studied and worked on the Gold Coast for five fantastic years. They were my formative years, so I see the Goldie as home for work, life and friends,” said Danny.
“I walked into my first radio gig on the Gold Coast. After volunteering on community radio, I joined 90.9 Sea FM, drove the ‘Sea Cruisers’ and covered the midnight to dawn shift; so coming back to join two such incredible hosts in Bianca and Ben for breakfast is a thrill, and an absolutely a mood-board moment for me!
“I worked as a lifeguard at Wet ‘n’ Wild and at Sea World – that’s kind of a rite of passage growing up on the Gold Coast – and Maccas Labrador, went to Uni at Griffith, lived right in the heart of Surfers Paradise, and headed to the Parkwood Tavern on a Thursday night! Ten years away from this gorgeous place on earth is enough. I’m coming home and I’m excited.”
The early starts of breakfast radio may be tough for some; however, Danny is no stranger to the early starts. Until recently, he was the co-host of Hit NSW Breakfast with Maz & Lakey, and before that, he hosted The Danny Lakey Show on Triple M National Nights.
He has earnt his radio wings with stints in the studio at Perth’s Mix94.5 and Hit Central Queensland before moving to national program slots for Hit’s mid-dawns and then Hit National Late Nights.
The seat Lakey is set to move into was left vacant after the departure of Dan Anstey. He recently waved the Goldie farewell, moving back home to Brisbane with his young family, and joined Marto and Margaux on the Triple M Breakfast show.
