Almost a year ago, Dark Fluid Espresso underwent a change in ownership. Jon and Doll, the new owners, had spent the last two decades overseas before returning to their hometown of the Gold Coast in Australia.
With more than three decades of experience in the hospitality industry, Jon and Doll are firm believers in the importance of providing excellent service. They understand that great food alone is not enough to succeed in the hospitality business, and they pride themselves on their can-do attitude, which has earned them a loyal following of regular customers.
The café is particularly popular on the weekends, when customers come from far and wide to sample their delicious breakfast dishes. And it’s no surprise that they’ve taken out the top spot in Best Breakfast Poll! Their motto is “winning one’s heart through their stomach and they certainly live up to that promise.
The food at Dark Fluid Espresso is cooked passionately by their talented chefs, David and Heloisa, who constantly experiment with new flavours and ingredients. And it’s delivered with love by their friendly team, who are always happy to chat and make recommendations.
Some of the most popular breakfast dishes include the Chilli Eggs (folded creamy eggs, in-house fresh chilli oil, herbs, parmesan, onion shallots, semi-dried tomatoes & goats cheese on sourdough), the Pumpkin Dukkah (roast herbed pumpkin with feta, baby spinach, grilled halloumi, radish, poached free-range egg, beetroot hummus, dukkah spice on sourdough), the Macadamia Pancakes (house made buttermilk pancakes, vanilla bean ice-cream, maple syrup, fresh wild berries, roast macadamias), the Hash Benny (house made crispy hash cakes, with poached free-range eggs & creamy hollandaise on top of your choice of either crispy middle-back bacon or button mushrooms or Atlantic smoked salmon), and the Smashed Avocado (smashed avocado with feta & parmesan, cherry tomatoes, watermelon radish, roasted seeds & nuts, poached free-range egg on sourdough.
But this café is more than just a great place to eat – it’s also a community. The café is pet-friendly, and they even have their own little corner dedicated to polaroid photos of their “paw-some” regulars.
