After an action-packed start of today’s race which saw contact and wheel to wheel racing between the two leading teams of Shell V Power Racing and Red Bull Ampol Racing.

When the start lights went out on the Sydney circuit, a rare botched start by Jamie Whincup saw him take evasive action to get onto the racing line, which impeded rival and great mate Will Davison in the opening seconds.

Behind the leaders, James Courtney was sent into a spin at 180km/h after a skirmish with Tim Slade and Scott Pye, with the #44 Boost Mobile Mustang sent into the infield styrofoam boards.

Anton with a late pit stop and the call to take four tyres over Red Bull only taking two meant a clear grip and acceleration advantage in the closing laps, which saw De Pasquale take the lead off Whincup and take his fourth win at Sydney Motorsport Park in as many weeks.

The remaining places on the podium were filled by Shane van Gisbergen, the championship leader who extended his lead to 249 points and rookie Will Brown who overtook Jamie Whincup with five to go for the third-place trophy.

Tomorrow drivers will go head to head in two races on the third weekend of racing at Sydney Motorsport Park.
