Tennis legend Andre Agassi is set to be the subject of a new multi-part documentary series on Apple TV+, the streaming platform has announced.
The series will chronicle the “thrilling, complex and inspiring story” of the American icon, whose life both on and off the court has captivated audiences for decades.
Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Chris Smith will direct the project, with production handled by Smith’s Library Films. Stacy Smith and Justin Gimelstob will serve as executive producers.
The announcement comes 16 years after the publication of Agassi’s celebrated memoir, Open: An Autobiography, which is widely regarded as one of the greatest sports books in American literature. The 1995 publication offered a raw and unflinching look at Agassi’s turbulent relationship with tennis, his famous rivalries, personal struggles, and eventual redemption.
Agassi is currently in Australia for the Australian Open, where he won four of his eight Grand Slam singles titles during his remarkable career.
