Fresh off the back of inking a deal with one of Australia’s most prized and well-established independent labels, ABC Music, and just moments after the Exes boarded a plane to spread their magic throughout the UK and Ireland, the Sydney all-female, all-bad-ass folk outfit All Our Exes Live in Texas leave us with ‘The Devil’s Part’. This twisted tale of love, heartbreak and terrible back tattoos is the latest instalment, lifted from the Exes’ debut album When We Fall, due for release on March 3, 2017.
Premiering on Culture Collide and getting its first spin on Double J where it was playlisted instantly,‘The Devil’s Part’ is a sumptuous blend of impeccable harmonies, spine-chilling mandolin moments, haunting guitar arrangements and the age-old advice that the fool is ‘not what I need’. It would be obvious to say that this is a song about heartbreak. But it’s so much more than that. ‘The Devil’s Part’is a story of the undeniably common relationship saga of falling for the wrong person. Again. And again. It’s a tale of two people; one who knew better, who is, and may always be, tempted by the devil.
‘The Devil’s Part’ video was directed and co-written by acclaimed Sydney filmmaker, Nils Crompton. The narrative takes a sinister turn, with allusions to indie classic The Virgin Suicides and spine-chilling cult references galore.
This October the Exes are hitting the road to premiere ‘The Devil’s Part’, as well as tunes from their much-anticipated debut album, When We Fall. The band is bringing a killer rhythm section to add a slice of stadium rock to their infectious indie-folk/Americana goodness.
When you come to an All Our Exes Live in Texas show be prepared to fall in love with four uber-talented musicians and gifted songwriters, each with their own unique vocal beauty and individual charm. Add to this great humour, whip-cracking banter and an on-stage synergy that is as magical as it is alluring, and there’s no chance you can resist the call of the Exes’ sirens.
Fresh from taking the US by storm, not to mention sharing the stage with (no big deal) TheBackstreet Boys, Passenger, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats and Tiny Ruins, the Exes are busy bees. The past few months have seen the awesome foursome in the studio with (again, no big deal) Ryan Lewis of Macklemore fame, as well as being confirmed as the national support for Boy & Bear, gearing up to play a string of UK and Ireland shows as well as Aussie festivals, and doing what they do best: lighting up stages, tantalising earholes with songs, tales and the un-mistakable but-ever-so-distinct cackle of the Exes.
