Gold Coast Light Rail Opens to Burleigh This Sunday

The Gold Coast light rail Stage 3 is officially opening this Sunday, linking Broadbeach to Burleigh Heads at last.
Gold Coast light rail Stage 3 begins passenger services this Sunday, connecting Broadbeach to Burleigh Heads.

The wait is finally over for Gold Coast commuters. This Sunday, the Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 will officially open to the public, connecting Broadbeach and Burleigh Heads for the very first time.

For locals who have watched the tracks being laid and the stations take shape, and endured four years of construction and traffic delays, the news brings a welcome sense of relief. The milestone was shared on Facebook by Member for Burleigh Herman Vorster with a simple announcement: ” Trams to Burleigh to Start Sunday”.

This new section of the light rail introduces eight new stops to the network. Commuters will soon be able to hop on and off at Mermaid Beach, Mermaid Beach South, Nobby Beach, Miami North, Miami, Christine Ave, Second Ave, and Burleigh Heads.

This comes off the back of testing and commissioning, which kicked off back in April, and a false start earlier this month when an ad campaign went live slating the wrong date for the opening.

Starting this Sunday, the 9th of August, passengers can finally board the Burleigh trams for 50c.
