Last night at the hospitality industries night of night the Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Awards, local wine bar Paloma was named the best wine bar in the country for 2023.
It is the latest venture from award-winning restauranteurs Alex Munoz Labart and wife Karla, who are also the people behind Labart, another wildly successful restaurant located in Burleigh Heads.
Opening last November Paloma has fast become one of the iconic James St destinations, and the talk of the town; that hype was recognised last night on the national stage with the Gourmet Traveller award and in summation stating,
“There are bars where booze is the main focus, and food barely gets a look-in. And bars where it’s all about the snacks, and drinks seem almost an afterthought. Then, there’s diminutive Paloma, a buzzy Gold Coast Goldilocks of a bar in beachy Burleigh Heads, which appears almost effortlessly to get the balance just right.”
