Hilary Duff Releases 'Roommates' Single and Video From Upcoming Album

Hilary Duff drops 'Roommates,' co-written with husband Matthew Koma, featuring a music video directed by Billie Eilish collaborator Matty Peacock.

Hilary Duff has released “Roommates,” the second single from her highly anticipated new album luck… or something, arriving everywhere via Atlantic Records on Friday, February 20.

The single is accompanied by an official music video directed by Matty Peacock, whose previous credits include work with Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande.

“Roommates” was co-written by Duff with her husband, Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer Matthew Koma, and Brian Phillips. Koma’s production credits include work with Britney Spears and P!nk, while Phillips has collaborated with Alec Benjamin and blink-182. The pair also co-produced the track.

Speaking about the meaning behind the song, Duff said: “Roommates is a song about when life is life-ing, babe. It’s that ache for a wilder, freer time – before the days were swallowed by carpools, budget talks, grocery runs and letting old or new insecurities slip in. It’s the restless hum of wanting to find your way back – to your rhythm, to your person, to yourself.”

The single follows the album’s lead track “Mature,” which earned over five million global streams in its first week of release. Vogue praised that song for “pushing Duff’s sound in new directions while still feeling quintessentially Hilary.”

Described as a sardonic, shimmering track, “Mature” arrived as a piece of autofiction inspired by romantic misadventures in Duff’s formative years. Set against bright pop production and layered with her signature wit and vulnerability, the song is accompanied by an evocative music video directed by Lauren Dunn, whose credits include work with Olivia Rodrigo, Dove Cameron and Saweetie. The video has garnered over 3.3 million views on YouTube, with a behind-the-scenes mini-documentary from the shoot also available to stream.

Luck… or something marks Duff’s sixth studio album, the release comes as Duff prepares to return to the stage for her “Small Rooms, Big Nerves” tour, an instantly sold-out run of intimate shows marking her first headline concert appearances in over a decade.

Presented by Live Nation, the performances kick off on January 19 at London’s historic O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, followed by stops at Toronto’s HISTORY on January 24, New York City’s Brooklyn Paramount on January 27, and Los Angeles’ The Wiltern on January 29.

Duff will also mark the new album’s arrival with two sold-out concert residencies at the intimate Voltaire at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas, scheduled for February 13-15 and May 22-24.
