Jessica Elms - Miss Universe Australia 2026 Finalist Interview

Today we’re chatting with Jessica Elms from Queensland, one of 28 remarkable women vying for the Miss Universe Australia 2026 crown.

Today we’re chatting with Jessica Elms from Queensland, one of 28 remarkable women vying for the Miss Universe Australia 2026 crown, to be decided on August 26 at Palladium, Crown Melbourne. In a first for the pageant, this year’s national final will be broadcast live nationally on the Seven Network.

So Jessica, why don’t you start by telling us a bit about yourself?

I’m 26 years old. I was born and raised in Brisbane. I’ve worked in the real estate industry for just under a decade and I hold a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Business. I’m naturally very driven and have always had a strong work ethic—I’m the kind of person who is always setting goals and looking for the next thing to challenge myself with.

But outside of my career and ambitions, I’m someone who really values connection. Spending time with my family and friends is what keeps me grounded and is what truly fills my cup.

What inspired you to take the leap and enter Miss Universe Australia?

I had always wanted to apply for Miss Universe Australia, but I believe everything happens at the right time. When 2026 came around, I felt ready to take that leap. I wanted to challenge myself, step into a space that pushed me beyond my comfort zone, and use this experience as an opportunity to grow, connect, and inspire.

As part of the program, you had the amazing opportunity to travel to Vietnam and stay at the beautiful Mövenpick Resort Cam Ranh. How was that experience for you?

Our stay at Mövenpick Resort Cam Ranh was fantastic! The care from the team at Mövenpick was amazing. We experienced the most incredible service and enjoyed beautiful meals prepared for us each day. It was such a blessing and a treat.

The resort itself was so beautiful, and I felt incredibly spoilt throughout our week-long stay. This was my first time travelling to Asia, and what an amazing experience it was. To be at such a beautiful resort with the most caring and attentive team, alongside the MUA team and MUA finalists, was truly special.

What’s one moment from the trip you don’t think you’ll ever forget?

The final white party night in Nha Trang – I kept reminding myself to take a second and soak it all in. I knew the trip was ending and with it the week in Vietnam alongside the MUA team and finalists. The vibes were amazing, whilst it was bittersweet as we all knew we would be going home the next day, there was just so much joy and appreciation in the air for the trip that we enjoyed and everything we experienced together. The Sailing Club at Nha Trang were the greatest hosts and made sure we had the most unforgettable evening.

As part of the trip, you also took part in your official swimwear shoot with Unnecessary. What was the experience like?

Incredible! We had no idea what was in store for each of us – what swimwear piece we would be wearing, or what our hair and makeup would look like, or the mood for the shoot. The unknown and surprise amplified the experience. My shoot was late evening, just as the sun was setting, and was incredible. The team makes you feel so beautiful, empowered, and confident.

Your next question comes from our current Miss Universe Australia, Lexie Brant. What is one belief or perspective that you’ve changed your mind about recently, and what caused that change?

I used to equate being really busy all the time with being successful. I’ve learned that success is really about balance – working hard towards your goals, but also making time to rest, reflect, and appreciate the journey.

With everyone bringing their own unique flair to the program, what would you say sets you apart from the other finalists?

This program is full of amazing women, and I feel honoured to be alongside them. What sets me apart is my authenticity and resilience. I’ve always been someone who backs myself, steps outside my comfort zone, and turns challenges into opportunities for growth.

What’s one skill, trip, or activity, not Miss Universe related, that you want to tick off your list before the end of 2026?

I’d love to plan a family trip. Life gets busy, and we haven’t had the chance to get away together for an extended family trip in over five years. That’s definitely something I’d love to change.

If you could work on any dream project, with no limits on time or resources, what would it be?

I would establish a support service for women escaping domestic violence, connecting them with safe shelter, essential resources, and the support they need to rebuild their lives.

If 2026 had a theme song, what would it be?

“Fly” by Nicki Minaj

What’s the most “you” thing currently sitting in your camera roll?

Without a doubt, my cat, Gracie. My camera roll is basically her personal portfolio!

Best piece of advice you’ve ever ignored?

To “play it safe.” Every amazing opportunity I’ve had has come from taking a chance.

What’s a completely useless or funny talent you have that you’re weirdly proud of?

I can quote an embarrassing amount of Harry Potter from memory!
