The oil boom in West Texas shows no signs of drying up. Paramount+ has officially given the green light for a third season of the hit original series Landman. The announcement, made on December 5, comes just weeks after a blistering second-season launch that shattered viewing records for the streamer.
The numbers behind the renewal are staggering. When Season 2 premiered in the U.S. on November 16, it didn’t just return—it exploded. The premiere episode racked up over 9.2 million streaming views within its first two days alone. That represents a massive 262% jump in viewership compared to the series’ debut season, cementing it as the most-watched premiere for any original series on Paramount+.
It isn’t just internal data painting a rosy picture. Preliminary Nielsen figures place the drama firmly in the upper echelon of streaming content, ranking as a top-three series during its launch week and holding a top-two spot the following week.
At the center of the storm is Billy Bob Thornton, who reprises his role as crisis executive Tommy Norris. The industry has taken notice of his performance, with Thornton picking up a Critics Choice nomination for Best Actor in a Drama Series just as the renewal news broke.
In the current season, the stakes for Norris have never been higher. As the oil rises, secrets are surfacing right alongside it. Norris faces mounting pressure from M-Tex Oil and Demi Moore’s Cami Miller, all while navigating the brutal reality of survival in West Texas. The official synopsis teases that Norris is inching toward a breaking point closer than he realizes.
The series continues to boast a heavyweight ensemble. Alongside Thornton and Moore, the cast features heavy hitters like Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, and Sam Elliott. The lineup is rounded out by Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina ChĂ¡vez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan, and Colm Feore.
Behind the camera, the show remains a powerhouse production from co-creator Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace. Produced by Paramount Television Studios, 101 Studios, and Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch Productions, the series has clearly found its stride.
With the second season still unfolding—new episodes drop every Sunday—fans can rest easy knowing there is plenty more fuel left in the tank for Tommy Norris and crew.
