Liam Payne, former member of the globally famous boy band One Direction, has passed away at the age of 31 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Authorities confirmed that the British singer was found dead after a fall from the third floor of his hotel in the city’s Palermo neighbourhood.
Local news outlets, La Nacion and Clarin, reported that police responded to an emergency call regarding “an aggressive man possibly under the influence of drugs and alcohol” near the Casa Sur Hotel. Upon arrival, they discovered Payne’s tragic death.
Alberto Crescenti, head of the local emergency medical system, confirmed that Payne fell into the courtyard of the hotel but refrained from sharing further details, leaving questions surrounding the circumstances of his fall unanswered.
Payne gained international fame as part of One Direction, alongside Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson. The group, formed on the British X Factor in 2010, skyrocketed to success, though they disbanded in 2016 to focus on solo careers. Payne continued his musical journey, releasing his debut solo album, LP1, in 2019 and his latest work, Teardrops, earlier this year.
In addition to his music career, Payne was a father to a son, born in 2017, with former Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole.
