Lily Goodare - Miss Universe Australia 2026 Finalist Interview

Today we’re chatting with Lily Goodare from Queensland, one of 28 remarkable women vying for the Miss Universe Australia 2026 crown.

Today we’re chatting with Lily Goodare from Queensland, one of 28 remarkable women vying for the Miss Universe Australia 2026 crown, to be decided on August 26 at Palladium, Crown Melbourne. In a first for the pageant, this year’s national final will be broadcast live nationally on the Seven Network.

So Lily, why don’t you start by telling us a bit about yourself?

I’m Lily, I’m from the Gold Coast and I own a digital marketing agency called Social Hub. Outside of work, I’m really passionate about creating opportunities for people, whether that’s helping businesses grow or using my platform to advocate for causes that matter. I’ve been an ambassador for the Stand By You Foundation for several years now, supporting the prevention of domestic violence through education and connection. I grew up on a farm, absolutely love animals, and one day I’d love to start an animal rescue. I’m someone who genuinely believes that where you come from doesn’t define where you can go, and that’s something I try to live every day.

What inspired you to take the leap and enter Miss Universe Australia?

For me, it was never about the crown. It was about the platform. I’ve experienced things in my life that could have made me stay small, but instead they’ve made me want to help other people realise they’re capable of so much more than they think. Miss Universe Australia gives women a voice, and I wanted to use mine to advocate for domestic violence awareness, support women in business, and hopefully inspire someone who feels like they’re starting from rock bottom to keep going.

As part of the program, you had the amazing opportunity to travel to Vietnam and stay at the beautiful Mövenpick Resort Cam Ranh. How was that experience for you?

It honestly exceeded every expectation I had. The resort was incredible, but what made the trip so special was the people. Spending time with such an inspiring group of women from all different backgrounds was something I’ll always be grateful for. We laughed a lot, supported each other, stepped outside our comfort zones together, and created friendships that I know will last well beyond the competition.

What’s one moment from the trip you don’t think you’ll ever forget?

Definitely Chocolate Hour. Every afternoon we’d all run over because there were unlimited snacks and chocolate waiting for us, which was basically my dream. It was such a fun little tradition and became one of those moments everyone looked forward to each day.

As part of the trip, you also took part in your official swimwear shoot with Unnecessary. What was the experience like?

It was honestly so much fun. Running around on the beach made everything feel really natural and not forced at all. The whole team created such a relaxed environment that it was easy to just enjoy the moment and be yourself. Overall it was such a great experience and one of my favourite parts of the trip.

Your next question comes from our current Miss Universe Australia, Lexie Brant. What is one belief or perspective that you’ve changed your mind about recently, and what caused that change?

I’ve realised that asking for help isn’t a weakness. I’ve always been someone who wanted to do everything myself because I thought that meant I was capable. Over the last year, both in business and in life, I’ve learnt that the strongest people are usually the ones who know when to lean on others. Having mentors, friends and a great support network has allowed me to grow so much faster than I ever could on my own.

With everyone bringing their own unique flair to the program, what would you say sets you apart from the other finalists?

I think it’s my resilience. I’ve been through experiences that have shaped who I am, but I’ve never wanted them to define me. Instead, they’ve given me empathy and a real drive to make a difference. I’ve also built my own business from the ground up, so I know what hard work looks like. I love having big goals, but I also know they’re only possible if you’re willing to keep showing up every single day.

What’s one skill, trip, or activity, not Miss Universe related, that you want to tick off your list before the end of 2026?

I’d love to get back into flying and continue working towards my commercial pilot’s licence. Aviation has always been something I’ve loved, and it’s one of those goals that’s been sitting in the background while I’ve focused on building my business. I’d love to spend more time in the air again.

If you could work on any dream project, with no limits on time or resources, what would it be?

My dream project would be my own animal rescue foundation. This is something I’ve dreamed about for years, and I genuinely believe I’ll be able to achieve it in the next five to ten years once I buy some land. I’d love to create a safe place where animals can have a second chance while also supporting people who need it.

If 2026 had a theme song, what would it be?

“Waves” by Robin Schulz. It’s my favourite tropical house song and it instantly reminds me of sitting on a beach somewhere in paradise.

What’s the most “you” thing currently sitting in your camera roll?

My camera roll is basically work screenshots, videos of my partner surfing, and way too many photos of my two golden retrievers.

Best piece of advice you’ve ever ignored?

Probably that not everyone in business is your friend. I’ve learnt that some people will take advantage of you, and sometimes you have to make decisions that put yourself first. That’s something I still don’t naturally like doing, but it’s been a really important lesson.

What’s a completely useless or funny talent you have that you’re weirdly proud of?

I’m weirdly good at matching people to the animal they look like. I somehow always get everyone agreeing with me. Otherwise, I look pretty harmless, but I’m actually quite good at boxing.
