Little Sea hailed as Australia's next big thing

Hailed as Australia’s next big thing, Little Sea have been dominating the music charts since the release of their smash hit single Change for Love. Andy, Dylan, Oliver and Leighton all have the charm, edginess and boyish good looks of bona fide rock stars so its no surprise they have a huge social media following and a legion of dedicated fans. GCMAG was lucky enough to sit down and have a chat with the Sydney boys as they travel Australia on their first ever sold out tour…

How did you guys meet and decide to form the band ‘Little Sea’?

Oliver: Well Andy, Leighton and I were already in a band together, playing rock and metal gigs in local pubs. Andy and Dylan knew each other, they went to school together. We were all friends who loved music so decided to come together to create Little Sea!

Where did the name ‘Little Sea’ come from ..?

Leighton: There’s no real meaning as to why we are called Little Sea but the story as to how we got the name is quite funny! One night, I was in the bath listening to John Mayer, as every 20 year old male does, and he has a lyric in one of his songs that goes ‘I’m a little lost at sea,’ so I put Little Sea together and that’s how it came about!

Oliver: Breaking news! Sitting in a bathtub!

You supported 5 Seconds of Summer on the Australian leg of their 2014 tour, how did you prepare for that?

Oliver: Practice, practice, practice!

Dylan: We rehearsed so much before those shows because we really wanted to make a good impression. The shows were amazing though!

What can fans expect from your upcoming tour?

Oliver: Loud noises!

Andy: A lot of loud noises!

Dylan: Bring your legs because there will be a lot of dancing. Maybe an umbrella because Leighton likes to spit on stage.

Your latest single, Change for Love, has been soaring up the music charts. What was your reaction to its instant success?

Andy: It’s the response we wanted because we didn’t think people would expect this sound to come from us, but people obviously like it.

Oliver: I think it’s been really good so far! The song is a different sound to what we’ve done before; I mean Dylan is playing the piano…

Leighton: We didn’t want to come out with a real big pop song, but definitely the single has a different sound to what our fans are used to. Obviously were stoked with its success, we have all worked really hard.

What is your favorite song from your EP With You, Without You?

Dylan: That’s tough. I mean were all proud of Change for Love.

Andy: I like all of them!

Oliver: I like I Don’t Wanna Leave.

Leighton: My favorite is probably Friends.

Andy: I think we can all agree that our favorite song to play live is Red Lights.

Oliver: I think also what we can agree on is the best song we’ve ever written is Change for Love.

So you write your own songs?

Dylan: Yeah we do. It’s a fun process that allows us to come together as a band and as friends and write really good music that people can relate to.

What do you guys do in your spare time?

Oliver: We don’t have spare time! We’re super busy but we like to explore the cities were staying in and make new memories.

Which artist would you most like to collaborate with?

Dylan: Probably Coldplay or Maroon 5. I really like those bands.

Oliver: I would really like to do a writing session with them.

Dylan: And Bruno Mars!

What’s next for you guys?

Leighton: Well obviously we’ve just released Change for Love, so we should release a new single soon. We’re not sure what it will be but the future looks exciting.

Dylan: We will be doing a few more music videos for singles from our EP. We’re currently on our tour at the moment, performing around Australia so that’s exciting.

You guys have a huge social media following with over 45,000 followers on Instagram. Do you have any messages for your fans?

Leighton: Thanks for being so supportive of us and coming to our shows and not giving up on us… we could never give up on you guys!
