It’s been a tough few months for many of us, but especially our arts community with the streets going silent as our city’s sound and soul has somewhat been muted as part of the COVID-19 restrictions.
But while the streets are quiet many coast loungerooms have been spending their Friday nights tuning into Benny O’Dwyer, and Jimmy Mac of The Communal House’s Live at the Lockdown.
Both affected by the sudden decline in work caused by the COVID-19 restrictions the guys decided to “give people at home something fun they could tune into while being stuck there. We thought of some of our friends living together in share houses; they’ll surely tune in.”
They were right now each week hundreds are tuning in from right across the coast and some even as far as Canada last week, local businesses have been a great support to the initiative and getting behind bringing this to the people every week.
Empty venues across the city have been helping out to host Live at The Lockdown with Nightcap at Nobbys and Suga Cocktail Bar ( Now with a Bottle Shop or Hole ) all helping out to host the event in recent weeks.
Every Friday evening the guys have been assembling a socially responsible number of musicians, and hosts to bring us all some great entertainment. This their 7th week is no different with a stellar lineup of local musical talent by Benny Whiskey, Chev Wilson, Lily Budiasa and Majelin and a Dj Set from Red Like Fire all kicking off from 6 pm on Friday.
With locals supporting local we’ve seen some tremendous support for Live at The Lockdown from local businesses, a big shout out to Bine Bar & Dining, Black Hops Brewery, Dead Mans Fingers, Rooster Rojo and Mr Consistent for helping this week.
Full disclosure, we’ve also been throwing our support behind Live at The Lockdown.
So you can tune in this Friday at gcmag.me/live or by heading to the Live at The Lockdown Facebook Page and taking part in the fun discussion and take home some great prizes on offer.
And you can donate to the cause by giving some money no matter how small to support those performing and setting this up every week,
