Surfing Australia has announced that renowned surfer Luke Egan will be inducted into the Australian Surfing Hall of Fame. This prestigious honour celebrates Egan’s exceptional career, which spanned over two decades on the ASP/World Surf League World Championship Tour. Egan’s impressive record includes four world tour event wins and a runner-up finish in the world title race in 2000. He consistently ranked among the top five surfers on five occasions, showcasing his remarkable talent and dedication.

Egan, hailing from Newcastle, NSW, and a competitor with Merewether Boardriders, expressed his gratitude for the recognition: “It is a great honour to be inducted into the Australian Surfing Hall of Fame in 2024. I am completely humbled! To be named alongside my heroes and greats of Australian Surfing is a dream. I have so much respect for everyone before me on the Hall Of Fame honour roll, it’s definitely a highlight of what has been an incredible surfing career, representing Australia on the international stage. Thank you to all the inductees that voted for me, that alone means so much.”

The induction ceremony will be part of the Australian Surfing Awards, set to take place on December 7, 2024, at the Home of the Arts (HOTA) on the Gold Coast. This year marks the 61st anniversary of the awards, a significant celebration of Australian surfing excellence. For the first time, the event will be held at HOTA, an iconic venue known for its vibrant arts, entertainment, and lifestyle offerings.

The awards ceremony will not only honour Australia’s top surfing talents but also acknowledge those who have made significant contributions behind the scenes, including event organisers, business leaders, media professionals, and photographers.

Luke Egan joins an illustrious list of past inductees, including Chelsea Hedges, Joel Parkinson, Taj Burrow, Stephanie Gilmore, Julian Wilson, Owen Wright, Mick Fanning, Mark Occhilupo, and Sally Fitzgibbons, further cementing his legacy in the sport.

Congratulations to Luke Egan who will be inducted into the Australian Surfing Hall of Fame on December 7
