The red, yellow, and blue flags of Nobby’s Beach Surf Life Saving Club have long symbolised safety and belonging for our stretch of the Gold Coast coastline. Now, after safeguarding the community since 1954, this beloved institution is entering a new chapter, joining forces with The Bears Group, the team well-known for operating the Burleigh Sports Club, Burleigh Leagues Club, and the Burleigh Bears Rugby League Club.
This partnership is not just good business, but a critical step toward ensuring the long-term strength, sustainability, and future of both the Nobby’s Beach Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) and its Supporters Club.
For more than 70 years, Nobby’s SLSC has been a cherished part of Gold Coast culture, supporting community connection, patrols, surf sports, and youth programs. This new arrangement allows each organization to focus on what it does best. For Nobby’s SLSC, this means continuing its vital and proud surf lifesaving tradition without distraction.
Meanwhile, The Bears Group will take charge of the commercial operations of the Supporters Club, including the bar, bistro, and gaming, starting December 8, 2025. They aim to elevate the hospitality experience using the same expertise and community-focused approach that has defined their Burleigh venues for decades.
The most visible change for locals involves a major commitment to modernisation. The Bears Group plans to move ahead with a major renovation of the Nobby’s venue in 2027. This significant project will refresh and modernise the club, introduce upgraded facilities, and ensure the space remains a welcoming destination centred around the community. Crucially, throughout this period and beyond, Nobby’s Beach Surf Life Saving Club will maintain its existing identity and strong community presence.
For those who love dining with an ocean view, the Supporters Club is also set to receive a culinary refresh. We can expect new menus inspired by coastal freshness and classic club favourites. This will include high-quality Australian beef, seasonal Australian produce, and modern touches that still respect Nobby’s relaxed seaside spirit.
A Shared Community Vision
The heart of this new endeavour remains fixed firmly on the community. Daniel Brunt, General Manager of The Bears Group, highlighted the shared commitment to community and long-term growth.
“This partnership marks an exciting new chapter,” Brunt stated, emphasising that The Bears Group is proud to support a future that honours the club’s surf lifesaving heritage while simultaneously elevating the member experience for years to come.
This collaboration provides renewed strength for Nobby’s, effectively separating the specialized lifesaving mission from the operational demands of running a modern hospitality venue. It’s a move designed to secure the legacy while upgrading the experience.
Locals are warmly welcomed to reconnect with their club when Nobby’s Beach Surf Club opens its doors at 10 am on Thursday, December 11, 2025. The club will operate 7 days a week, daily from 10 am to 10 pm.
