In the realm of long-running music festivals, few events have stood the test of time and left a mark on the musical landscape like Splendour in the Grass…. However, it has now been confirmed that the 2024 edition of the festival will be cancelled.
Widespread media reports from News Corp and official media partners of the festival Triple J have earlier today indicagted that the event was expected to be cancelled. The event was set to be headlined by Kylie Minogue and feature artists like Hayden James, Arcade Fire, Future, and Gflip. We reached out to organisers Secret Sounds, after several hours we have been referred to a statement posted to the events instagram page moments ago.
Organisers took to social media with the following statement ” With a Heavy Heart, We’re announcing the cancellation of the Splendour in the Grass 2024, We know many fans were excited for this year’s lineup and all the great artists planning to join us, but due to unexpected events, we’ll be taking this year off. Ticket Holders will be refunded automatically by Moshtix, Thank you for understanding and we will working hard to be back in Future Years.”
Organisers Jessica Ducrou & Paul Pitticco of Secret Sounds said ” We’re heartbroken to be missing a year after more than two decades in operation. This festival has always been a huge community effort, and we’d like to thank everyone for their support and overall faith. We hope to be back in the future.
With reports now confirmed, this means Splendour in the Grass is the latestfestival to announce its cancellation. Groovin the Moo also announced they would be cancelling their festival due to financial issues and a lack of ticket sales.
We are unsure of the reason for the cancellation of Splendour in the Grass, but it may be that the cost of living pinch is really biting down on those entertainment pleasures, and the iconic festival may just be the latest casualty of this.
This also comes after organizers of the Falls Festival put the event on hold for 2022-2023 and have made no further announcement on its return in 2024…
