Origin 2025: Maroons Drop Cherry-Evans, Add Four New Faces

Queensland Maroons add four players for Game II of the 2025 Origin series in Perth.

The Queensland Rugby League has confirmed four fresh faces in the Queensland Maroons squad for Game II of the 2025 State of Origin series, with Kurt Capewell, Corey Horsburgh, Jack Howarth, and Ezra Mam earning selection following strong recent NRL performances.

The updated 20-man lineup is set to take on New South Wales at Perth’s Optus Stadium on June 18. This latest squad reflects strategic adjustments after Game I, with notable omissions and fresh inclusions reshaping the Maroons’ approach.

Veteran halfback Daly Cherry-Evans and forward Beau Fermor have not retained their spots following Game I. Meanwhile, Jesse Arthars and Kulikefu Finefeuiaki, who had been part of the camp, will return to their clubs, having gained valuable experience from the Maroons environment.

Kurt Capewell, currently with the New Zealand Warriors, returns to the squad, bringing veteran experience and consistency. Canberra Raiders’ enforcer Corey Horsburgh gets the call-up after impressing with his physicality and defensive grit.

Also joining the squad are Melbourne Storm’s Jack Howarth and Brisbane Broncos’ dynamic playmaker Ezra Mam, both of whom have demonstrated standout form in recent NRL fixtures. Their inclusion signals a continued investment in youth and form-based selection.
