The Pacific Air Show Gold Coast, scheduled from 18 to 20 August 2023, promises to be an awe-inspiring extravaganza as the Surfers Paradise beach sky transforms into the biggest air show to ever take place in Australia. This sensational event will feature high-performance aircraft, breathtaking aerobatics, and mind-boggling maneuvers, captivating spectatorsfrom near and far.
Founder of the Pacific Airshow Gold Coast, Kevin Elliott, could barely contain his excitement as he announced the participation of an impressive array of aircraft from around the globe, showcasing the cutting-edge capabilities of both the Australian Defence Force and the United States military and their military aviators.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have the support of the Australian Defence Force, who will be showcasing their key assets at our event,” expressed Elliott. “The Royal Australian Air Force’s commitment and participation are of particular significance, given that Pacific Airshow is still the new kid on the block. Their presence will elevate the excitement felt on the Gold Coast and reinforce our message of mateship between Australia and the United States.”
A captivating display of power and precision as the RAAF F/A-18F Super Hornets take to the skies. These Top Gun twin-seat fighters are capable of air interception, air combat, close air support, and the interception of enemy supply lines, including shipping.
Adding to the spectacle, the RAAF C-17A Globemaster III, a vital logistics asset for ADF operations, will showcase its versatility and strength. This impressive aircraft enables the rapid deployment of troops, supplies, combat vehicles, heavy equipment, and helicopters anywhere across the globe.
The highly skilled Air Force Roulettes aerobatic team, known for their thrilling formations and precision flying, will leave the crowd awestruck. Don’t miss their breathtaking performance that demonstrates the highest levels of skill and teamwork.
Not to be outdone, the mighty RAAF C130J Hercules will make its presence known with a thrilling flypast, highlighting its impressive capabilities as a versatile military transport aircraft.
Joining forces with the Australian contingent, the United States Air Force will bring an equally impressive lineup of aircraft to the Pacific Airshow Gold Coast. Demonstrating the calibre of Airmen and combat airpower in the Indo-Pacific region, the US Air Force PACAF F-16 Demo Team will showcase the capabilities of the F-16 Fighting Falcon to the delight of aviation enthusiasts.
Making their debut in Australia, the US Air Force KC-135R Stratotanker Demo Team will demonstrate the core aerialrefuelling capability of the United States Air Force. This crucial role has excelled for over 60 years, providing refuelling support to Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and allied nation aircraft. Witness the precision and expertise of these aerialrefuelling maneuvers.
Also joining the impressive line up is the US Marine Corps MV-22B Osprey Demo, a remarkable multi-engine, dual-piloted, vertical takeoff and landing tilt-rotor aircraft. Designed for combat, combat support, combat service support, and Special Operations missions worldwide, this aircraft will showcase its remarkable capabilities.
The US Air Force C-17A Globemaster III, the most flexible cargo aircraft in the Air Force inventory, will demonstrate rapid strategic delivery of troops and all types of cargo to main operating bases or directly to forward bases in the deployment area. Its ability to perform tactical airlift and airdrop missions, as well as transport patients during aeromedical evacuations, highlights its importance in enhancing worldwide air mobility requirements.
Prepare for a truly jaw-dropping sight as the US Air Force C-5M Super Galaxy takes center stage. As the largest aircraft in the Air Force inventory, this strategic transport aircraft boasts impressive features, including five sets of landing gear, 28 wheels, and four General Electric commercial engines. Its ability to carry oversized cargo over intercontinental ranges and operate on relatively short runways demonstrates its unmatched capabilities.
Adding a touch of maritime flair to the spectacle, the United States Navy Leap Frogs Parachute Demonstration Team will take to the skies. As the official parachute demonstration team of the United States Navy and part of the United States Naval Special Warfare Command, their aerial acrobatics will leave spectators in awe.
But what truly sets the Pacific Airshow Gold Coast apart from other airshows? According to Elliott, who is also a pilot, it is the unique setting, high tempo, and diverse hospitality offerings that make this event truly remarkable.
As a remote show, Pacific Airshow takes place over water rather than an airport, offering spectators the opportunity to enjoy the action from the comfort of the beach. Imagine listening to great music and commentary while surrounded by family and friends, all within an amazing hospitality venue.
The cadence of the performers further enhances the airshow experience, with one aviator finishing their display as another flies right in. Spectators have less than 60 seconds between acts, ensuring there is always something new and exciting happening. This immersive atmosphere is truly an experience that must be witnessed firsthand.
The recent release of Australia’s Defence Strategic Review aligns perfectly with the vision of the Pacific Airshow Gold Coast. It provides an excellent opportunity to showcase the contemporary and historic capabilities of the Australian Defence Force to a diverse demographic while attracting the next generation of motivated aviators.
“We are bringing this event to Australia at the ideal time to support the ADF’s current recruiting efforts,” said Elliott. “Furthermore, a successful inaugural Pacific Airshow will only strengthen the attraction to like-minded partner forces from the region and around the world. Our team is committed to making Pacific Airshow the largest annual event on the Gold Coast, providing a highly visible platform for demonstrating the strength of alliances, partnerships, and hosting foreign dignitaries.”
The anticipation for the Pacific Airshow Gold Coast is palpable, and even Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate couldn’t contain his excitement. In a nod to the iconic film Top Gun, he declared, “I feel the need, the need for speed! Pacific Airshow Gold Coast will be a spectacle like no other, where visitors and locals alike will witness stunning aerobatics and formation flying with incredible skill and precision. Keep looking up, and you won’t miss a beat. Having seen this event at Huntington Beach, I cannot wait to see it on our very own Gold Coast.”
