Rowan Brent-White - Miss Universe Australia 2026 Finalist Interview

Today we’re chatting with Rowan Brent-White from Western Australia, one of 28 remarkable women vying for the Miss Universe Australia 2026 crown.

Today we’re chatting with Rowan Brent-White from Western Australia, one of 28 remarkable women vying for the Miss Universe Australia 2026 crown, to be decided on August 26 at Palladium, Crown Melbourne. In a first for the pageant, this year’s national final will be broadcast live nationally on the Seven Network.

So Rowan, why don’t you start by telling us a bit about yourself?

I’m Rowan, a 19-year-old from the West Coast of Australia. I grew up by the ocean, where sport has always been a huge part of my life. From surf lifesaving and competitive swimming to running and surfing, I’ve always loved challenging myself. I’m currently studying Interior Design, I model, and I hope to become a fitness instructor because health, movement and helping people are things I’m passionate about. I’d describe myself as genuine, competitive, caring and someone who’s always up for an adventure.

What inspired you to take the leap and enter Miss Universe Australia?

It’s a funny story. I was working at my local Italian restaurant one afternoon when a customer waved me over and asked if I’d ever considered entering Miss Universe Australia. At the time I was on my gap year and honestly felt a little lost, knowing I wanted to push myself and try something new. I thought, “I’ve just been handed an incredible opportunity – I would be crazy not to give it a go.” I hoped it would build my confidence, help grow my modelling career and challenge me in ways I’d never experienced before.

As part of the program, you had the amazing opportunity to travel to Vietnam and stay at the beautiful Mövenpick Resort Cam Ranh. How was that experience for you?

It was honestly incredible. The people were so welcoming, the food was fresh and amazing, and the scenery was beautiful. What made it even more special was sharing the experience with so many incredible women. There was always so much laughter, entertainment and fun, and I came home with friendships I’ll genuinely treasure.

What’s one moment from the trip you don’t think you’ll ever forget?

One of my favourite memories was a night with all the WA girls after dinner. We went back to one of our rooms, had a few drinks, laughed until we cried and ended up having some really deep conversations. It was such a wholesome moment. I loved getting to know the girls from every state, but having that quality time with my home girls made the whole experience even more special.

As part of the trip, you also took part in your official swimwear shoot with Unnecessary. What was the experience like?

At first, I was nervous because I wanted to get the perfect photos. I then soon changed my perspective and energy as I watched Emily shoot before me. Seeing how much she was smiling and genuinely enjoying herself reminded me to just be present. Sophia also created such a calm and relaxed environment. It was my first time shooting sunglasses, so it was a completely new experience, and I learnt so much while having a lot of fun.

Your next question comes from our current Miss Universe Australia, Lexie Brant. What is one belief or perspective that you’ve changed your mind about recently, and what caused that change?

I used to think the Miss Universe Australia program was something you had to take so seriously all the time. But when Troy spoke to us in Vietnam, he reminded us that we’re meant to enjoy the journey. That really shifted my mindset. I’ve learnt that when you relax, smile, have fun and enjoy the people around you, you bring out the best version of yourself.

With everyone bringing their own unique flair to the program, what would you say sets you apart from the other finalists?

I think what sets me apart is that I’m unapologetically myself. I’m not trying to be perfect or someone I’m not. I want people to feel comfortable around me, like they can come and have a genuine conversation. Being authentic and approachable is something that’s important to me.

What’s one skill, trip, or activity, not Miss Universe related, that you want to tick off your list before the end of 2026?

I’d love to become a spin or fitness instructor. Health and fitness have always been a huge part of my life, and I’d love to turn that passion into something I can do alongside my Interior Design studies and Miss Universe Australia.

If you could work on any dream project, with no limits on time or resources, what would it be?

My dream has always been to walk in a Victoria’s Secret runway show. I remember being about 10 years old, walking through Singapore with my mum when we passed a Victoria’s Secret store. Mum said, “Wouldn’t it be amazing to be a Victoria’s Secret model one day?” Ever since that moment, it’s been a dream I’ve never let go of.

If 2026 had a theme song, what would it be?

Adventure of a Lifetime by Coldplay. The lyric “I’m alive again” really sums up this year for me. After a tough 2025, 2026 has felt like a fresh start—a year full of adventure, opportunities and becoming myself again.

What’s the most “you” thing currently sitting in your camera roll?

Probably photos of me being active—surfing, snowboarding in Niseko, running with friends or travelling somewhere outdoors. Mixed in with plenty of selfies with my boyfriend and friends after workouts. That’s honestly me in a nutshell.

Best piece of advice you’ve ever ignored?

“Don’t be fooled by people’s highlight reels.” After finishing school, I spent way too much time comparing myself to what I saw on social media. I felt like everyone else had their life together while I was falling behind. Looking back, I wish I’d realised sooner that everyone is on their own journey, and social media rarely shows the full picture.

What’s a completely useless or funny talent you have that you’re weirdly proud of?

I can randomly tumble across grass and still do flips on a trampoline. It’s completely useless, but if there’s a trampoline anywhere, I’ll probably be the first one on it!
