Cam waters has won the final race of the weekend with a thrilling performance that saw the safety car back in action after being a no show for hundreds of km’s in racing.

The two race day was a thriller, with Shane claiming victory over his teammate in race one of the day in a down to the wire race that had the bulls charging into each other for most of the race.

However, most of the action and excitement were saved for the final race of the day, where the 26-year-old Mildura product started from pole position alongside van Gisbergen, and the Monster Energy Mustang driver grabbed the early lead in the final race of the WD-40 Townsville SuperSprint.

Van Gisbergen overcame Waters in the opening laps and opened a substantial lead until the safety car was called mid-race after Macauley Jones hit the concrete wall; there was a rush in pit lane with teams all taking fresh rubber for a dash to the finish.

In a stroke of strategy genius and perfect timing, Tickford opted for Waters to stay out for an additional lap as he beat the Safety Car to the control line and a mad dash around the circuit and a perfect pit stop seen the Monster Mustang take the lead and control of the race.

Waters was tough and held his nerve to hold off the Red Bull star and claim arguably the best win of his short career.

“We had a mega battle with him, it was really cool. Awesome to get one on him and win that race,” Waters said.
“I had a few more [tricks] up my sleeve… it’s awesome racing Shane, he’s so good at racecraft and racing people.
“There’s always a bit of respect there. We were side by side into Turn 2, and giving each other the shakas, and having a bit of fun with it.
“Really, really cool race.”
