In a landmark moment, the Repco Supercars Championship has officially confirmed the dates for its first-ever New Zealand Double Header, scheduled for April 2026. The twin events will see the series race across both islands over two consecutive weekends â a long rumoured move that underscores Supercarsâ deepening connection with its passionate Kiwi fanbase.
From 10â12 April, Supercars will roar into action at the TaupÅ International Motorsport Park in the central North Island, before shifting south to make its long-awaited South Island debut at Christchurchâs Ruapuna Raceway from 17â19 April.
Thi announcement confirms more than just dates â it signals a new era for motorsport in Aotearoa. For the first time in Supercars history, fans from both islands will have the opportunity to witness world-class racing in their own backyards across a single, action-packed month.
The return to TaupÅ marks Supercarsâ third visit to the circuit, following the success of previous events, including a crowd of over 67,000 attendees in 2024. TaupÅâs growing reputation as a fan-favourite venue made it an obvious choice to launch the double header.
Supercars CEO Shane Howard highlighted the significance of the announcement, stating:
âWe are thrilled to officially confirm the dates for our inaugural New Zealand Double Header. Kicking off in TaupÅ and finishing in Christchurch, this is a major milestone for Supercars and a huge win for our fans and partners in Aotearoa.â
The addition of Ruapuna Raceway to the calendar is especially momentous, as it marks the Championshipâs debut in the South Island â and with it, a long-anticipated reward for Christchurchâs motorsport community.
A Shared Commitment: 2026â2028
This isnât just a one-off. Supercars has locked in a three-year hosting agreement with both TaupÅ and Ruapuna from 2026 to 2028, ensuring the continuation of the double header format and expanding the Championshipâs footprint across New Zealand.
âWeâre excited to build on [our past] success by bringing the Championship to the South Island for the very first time,â Howard said.
âWith two back-to-back events showcasing New Zealandâs best circuits, passionate fans, and iconic locations, April 2026 is set to be one of the biggest months in Supercars history.â
