Exciting news for poker fans the World Poker Tour is coming to Australia for the first time this September. The event’s main tour will touch down on the Gold Coast for thirteen days of action at The Star Gold Coast from the 15th to the 27th.

The event will surely attract card sharks from around the globe to the city to participate in the WPT event, which also happens to be the only stop on the main tour throughout the Asia Pacific.

Said Adam Pliska, World Poker Tour CEO: “The passion of Australian poker players combined with Star Gold Coast’s world-class venue makes WPT Australia a must-play event for poker players globally. We look forward to seeing the best poker players in the world at The Star Gold Coast this September.”

The event is expected to generate an impressive $ 6 million dollars in prizes and attract a pool of around 3,000 players from around the globe, with the Main Event prize alone expected to exceed over $ 3 million dollars.

The Star Gold Coast Chief Operating Officer, Jess Mellor, said WPT would provide a much-needed boost to the local economy with around 80% of players expected to travel to the Gold Coast from domestically or internationally.

“This is a fantastic evolution of our successful long-standing partnership with WPT, we’re absolutely thrilled The Star Gold Coast has secured the WPT Main Tour 2022, and so proud that it will be the first time in the history there’s a stop in Australia.”

“As the Gold Coast’s home of all things entertainment, we are so excited to be welcoming interstate and international poker players back to our shores, shining a spotlight on The Star Gold Coast as one of the best poker venues in the world and providing us with the opportunity to highlight our world-class hospitality too.”

The stakes will be high throughout the WPT Main Tour Gold Coast with players hungry to compete across the 13 jam-packed days of events, with buy-ins ranging from $440 to $20,000 with the highly coveted Main Event buy-in set at $5,400.

To play tribute to the extraordinary late Shane Warne, a passionate lover of poker and supporter of the WPT and Star Poker, the WPT Main Tour Gold Coast will also be introducing the Shane Warne One Day Perpetual Trophy event. This will be a must attend for fans of cricket and poker and is sure to attract a massive number of entries.

Registrations for WPT Main Tour Gold Coast are now open. With limited seating available, players and fans are encouraged to get in early and ensure they register before booking flights and accommodation.
