One of the best ways to stay accountable during winter is to jump into the deep end and sign up for an event. Whether it’s the Gold Coast Marathon, joining a round-robin basketball team, or something as crazy as Tough Mudder, committing to an event gives you the motivation to show up for training.
Try Group Training
Group training is a fantastic way to stay motivated because you become accountable not only to your coach but also to your community. You’re more likely to attend a session if you know a friend is expecting to see you there—and you don’t want to let them down. No one likes being that person!
Wear Your Winter Workout Clothes to Bed
It might sound silly, but one of the best secrets to sticking with your fitness routine during winter is to go to sleep in your workout gear. This way, you can avoid that tempting conversation with yourself in the morning—“It’s too cold! I don’t want to get out of bed and change.” When you’re already dressed for the occasion, there’s no argument.
Extra Tip: Stay Hydrated
Even though the Gold Coasters might call it “freezing,” it’s crucial to stay hydrated in the colder months. It’s recommended to drink at least 2-3 litres of water per day, and even more if you exercise. One trick is to boil the kettle and fill your water bottle with half hot and half cold water. This method not only keeps you hydrated but also warms you up—perfect for those early 5:00 am workouts.

It might not be a bikini—it could be a photo from your honeymoon or an outfit you’re excited to wear. Whatever image works for you, display it where you’ll see it daily. -

The gravitational pull of the bed is especially strong at 5 am when it’s cold and dark outside.
