She has compiled her top tips for keeping fit this winter Sign up to an Event One of the best ways to stay accountable during winter is to jump into the deep end and sign up to an event. Whether its the Gold Coast Marathon, enter a round robin Basketball Team or something as crazy as Tough Mudder, signing up to an event gives you motivation to show up to training. Try Group Training One of the best thing about Group Training is that you become accountable to not only your Coach but also to the community. You are more likely to attend a session if you know your mate is expecting to see you there and you don’t want to let them down. No one likes being that guy/ gal! Wear your winter workout clothes to bed I know it sounds silly, but one of the best secrets to sticking it out through winter is to go to sleep in your workout gear. That way you’re avoiding that conversation you have with yourself in the morning ‘It’s too cold! I don’t want to get out of bed and changed.’ You can’t argue when you’re already dressed for the occasion! Extra Tip: Stay Hydrated Even though it’s what the Gold Coasters consider “freezing” it is so important to stay hydrated. This can be challenging in the colder months because we want to stay warm. It’s recommended that we drink at least 2-3 litres of water per day and even more if you exercise. The best way I find to keep drinking water and therefore keeping my body hydrated is by boiling the kettle and filling my water bottle up with half hot and half cold water. That way I’m more inclined to drink it, as it keeping me warm instead of making me feel the cold. Perfect for those 5:00am starts. Tri Babes Courtney Mcarty Courtney is passionate about both Triathlon and CrossFit. Her mission is to motivate others to push themselves towards achieving their Triathlon goals through her business Tri Babes She has provided you with her top three tips for keeping fit this winter 1. Set a Goal Not really into swimming, riding or running? No problem! Set another goal! Hang your favourite bikini on the fridge next to a photo of you enjoying the sunshine from last summer. When you see that piece of swimwear, knowing each day that passes brings you closer to hitting the beach this summer, you are going to be keen to close that fridge door and work up a sweat instead. There’s nothing like a picture to motivate you. It might not be a bikini; it might be a photo of you on your honeymoon or a great outfit you want to wear. Whatever image works for you, stick it up where you’ll see it every day. 2. Focus on the Benefits The gravitational pull of the bed is very strong at 5am, especially when it is cold and dark outside. That’s why you need to remind yourself of the benefits exercise brings you. You want to manage your stress levels, have an abundance of energy and feel good about yourself rather than falling asleep at your desk. So get a piece of paper and write down all the ways exercise adds to the quality of your life. Stick it on the fridge, along with your photo, and read it regularly, particularly when you are feeling flat. 3. Dress For It Not only is Winter a great excuse to go shopping for new training clothes but if you have the right gear for your chosen physical activity you are more likely to drag yourself out of bed before the sun comes up to get your sweat on. Dress in layers – save your winter woolies for your next skiing holiday! It also helps to have your clothes out and ready to go for the morning so as soon as your up you can jump straight into them without getting cold trying to find what you need. Pilates By Lisa Lisa Pentony is driven, ambitious and a household name in pilates. Lisa was one of the first pilates instructor’s to create an online studio. She’s responsible for the online hub, Pilates By Lisa, where members have unlimited access to over 140 online workout videos. Get In The Mindset: Summer bodies are made in Winter! Now is the time to get down to business and work on sculpting and toning your body. When the weather starts to heat up and we start to shed layers of clothing, you will be revealing a brand new you! Plan ahead, schedule your workouts like you would a meeting and commit to it. Workout From The Comfort Of Home: I used to hate having to layer up, run to the car, blast the heater and then dread having to walk into the gym. Sometimes It would take hours just to do a quick workout! One of the benefits of our Online Pilates Studio is that you can do the workout of your choice in your living room without even having to walk out into the cold. No more adhering to gym or class timetables, you make your own schedule! As an added benefit, you’ll save precious time and you will be warmed up from the inside out all day! Keep Hydrated! The last thing we feel like doing during winter is drinking a cold glass of water…Give me a hot coffee any day! But it’s so important to remember to drink at least 1-2 litres per day to avoid dehydration. If you suffer from dry skin and cracked lips during winter, make sure that you consistently sip water throughout the day, especially when you are working out.]]>
