Gold Coast Supercars star Broc Feeney has gone back to school in the lead-up to this weekend’s Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500. The 24-year-old driver visited All Saints Anglican School in Merrimac this morning, arriving exactly three days before race cars hit the track on the streets of Surfers Paradise.
Feeney, who is originally from Carrara, spent time at the Merrimac campus prior to the start of Queensland’s largest annual sporting event. During the visit, he met with students, including several who participate in the SuperGEMS program. The SuperGEMS initiative is a joint collaboration between Supercars and Griffith University, created specifically to expose adolescent female students to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers within the motorsport industry.
This weekends Gold Coast 500 represents an important milestone for the Carrara local, who is in search of his first hometown victory on the Gold Coast street circuit. Feeney has previously come close to the top step of the podium at Surfers Paradise, having finished second in both races last year and recording third-place finishes twice during the 2024 event.
In addition to aiming for a local win, Feeney enters the event as the second seed among the ten Finalists competing for the Supercars title this season. The Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 serves as the opening round of a three-round knockout run to decide the Championship. The stakes are structured around an elimination format: among the ten Finalists starting the battle this weekend, three drivers will be eliminated from Championship contention by the end of the event. The remaining seven Finalists will advance to the Sandown 500 in a fortnight’s time.
On-track action for the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 begins on Friday on the iconic Surfers Paradise street circuit. Drivers will complete two races across the weekend, with a 250-kilometre race scheduled for Saturday and a second 250-kilometre race on Sunday.
