The popular Gold Coast craft brewery Black Hops has unfortunately gone under for a second time in just two years. After failing to secure a buyer, the business has officially called in administrators. This recent collapse follows similar proceedings faced by the brand’s original founders back in 2024.
Earlier today, administrators from Worrells were appointed to two companies behind the operation: Black Hops Craft and Green Hops Brewing.
A Short-Lived Rescue
A consortium of buyers had purchased the Black Hops brand in 2024 with hopes of rebuilding the craft beer favourite. They even brought in Nick Boots, the former general manager of Stone and Wood, to help steer the ship. Despite these efforts to revitalise the business, the rescue attempt has fallen short.
This comes just a month after the brand celebrated its 10th Birthday at the Burleigh Taproom, with fans gathering to celebrate the brand’s turnaround.
Black Hops Issues Statement
The company took to Instagram and Facebook a few moments ago to share the statement below. They have limited all comments on the statement and suspended posting in the companies Ambassador group for 40 hours as of yesterday.
“Black Hops has entered into Voluntary Administration, with independent administrators appointed to manage the process and assess the best path forward for the business.
Voluntary Administration is a formal process that gives a business time to assess its position and work through its options under independent administration.
What is important to know is that Black Hops remains open and continues to trade as normal. Our taprooms are open, our team is at work, and the beers are still flowing.
We will share more details as the process progresses. For now, our focus remains on supporting our team, serving our customers, and continuing to do what we do best.
