Today we are catching up with Briana Demaio of Western Australia, one of the 27 talented and inspiring women from all walks of life who are hoping to be crowned Miss Universe Australia 2022.

So Briana, why don’t you tell us a little about yourself?

I am 20 years of age and live in Perth, Western Australia. Coming from an Italian background, I find myself to be very family oriented and love spending time when I can with my loved ones. I also enjoy the company of my closest friends and doing activities with them, such as shopping, going for walks and even just grabbing a coffee for a catch-up.

I am currently in my second year at Edith Cowan University, studying for a Bachelor of Media and Communications, Majoring in Broadcasting and Digital Journalism. Whilst I have a passion for fashion and am working in a clothing boutique as a casual employee, my dream job would be to work on the news in the hopes of becoming the next weather reporter or TV presenter.

We all have motivations, mine usually around good coffee, but what was your key motivation for entering Miss Universe Australia?

My key motivation for entering Miss Universe Australia was watching the Miss Universe competition from a very young age. These women portrayed to be strong, powerful and confident, and I always told myself that one day I will be exactly like them.

As each year went by, I became more eager and determined to enter. I am a massive believer that if you want something to happen, make it happen, and I felt this year, the timing was right!

I am so happy that I did as I have already achieved so much. Not only have I made friends that I know will last a lifetime, but I also found a new confidence within myself that I  hope to share with others!

As part of the program, you recently spent time in our hometown of the Gold Coast with the Village Roadshow team; what was the experience like?

The experience was like no other!

As a child, the Gold Coast was our family’s go-to holiday destination. Being back brought such fond memories and special moments of fun and bonding with my parents and two sisters.

This time round, my bonding was a little different. I had the opportunity to meet new friends from all over Australia and experience just as much fun and create new memories with them all, especially when it came to the theme parks!
I couldn’t wait to get back onto the Scooby-Doo ride… and yes! It was just as good as I remember 🙂

What would you say was the highlight of your trip?

So many amazing highlights… but if I had to choose one, it would definitely be the walking workshop at Movie World on the final night with Thelma Rodriguez.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be walking on Main Street, where as a child I sat and watched the Star Parade!

I know I said just one, but I can’t deny that I absolutely loved my official swim shoot! My location, styling and all crew involved made my experience one I will never forget!

With everyone bringing their own unique and individual flair to the program, what is something that sets you apart from the other contestants?

Something that sets me apart from the other contestants would be my maturity for such a young age.

When I meet new people, they are often shocked when I tell them that I am only 20!

I find myself to have the right morals and values and know how to handle a good or bad situation efficiently. I’m also a very humble person who always acts kindly and genuinely towards others with a very easygoing attitude.

I feel that you shouldn’t let age define who you are, and it certainly shouldn’t stop anyone from chasing their dreams! I want to prove that as a 20-year old I can be a true role model and inspiration to anyone of any age, even those who are much older or younger than I am!

Your next question comes from our current Miss Universe Australia, Daria Varlamova; in your opinion, what are the most essential qualities that a Miss Universe Australia embodies?

Australians are known to be open-hearted and open-minded, so in my opinion, these are two main qualities a Miss Universe Australia should embody.
She should also demonstrate uniqueness and positivity and be someone who always remains true to herself
Confidence is key, and therefore I believe this quality is also super important when it comes to representing our county!

Now travel is back on the cards; where is your favourite place to travel to?

Whilst I have travelled around most states in Australia, I’ve only travelled overseas to Singapore and Bali.

I would absolutely love to visit Europe, in particular Italy. I want to be able to explore my family heritage and cultural background, and I would love to indulge in lots of traditional pasta, pizza and, of course, gelato!

However, the next place I hope to visit is the beautiful San José, Costa Rica 😉

What is something people may find interesting about you?

Something people might find interesting about me is that between the ages of 3-16, I was a dancer. I attended classes in Jazz, Classical, Acrobats, Hip Hop and my favourite of all, Tap!
Dancing has always been a tradition in my family, but when I began modelling, I knew I had to follow that dream; ever since then, I have not looked back, as this has led me to where I am today!

Tell us something you’re passionate about and why?

As I’ve grown up, I have always been encouraged to follow my passion and my heart. If you are passionate about what you do, you will always be successful. This has led me to my choice of career, in which I am now studying.

Broadcasting and Journalism are something that I am passionate about. I believe that it is important that people know what is going on around the world and especially in our own country.

Through broadcasting, it gives me the opportunity to express myself and highlight it to the public.
