Brodie Kostecki has made a triumphant return to victory lane, securing a resounding win on Sunday at the NTI Townsville 500.
After claiming pole position for both of the previous races this weekend without converting them into wins, Kostecki finally broke through. Piloting Dick Johnson’s famous No. 17, the West Australian secured his 17th career win and his sixth of the 2026 season. It marked his first trip to the top step of the podium since the Christchurch event in April.
The relief of gettign back that winning form, though it culminated in a dramatic post-race moment. Kostecki hit the wall during his victory burnout, providing a stark visual reminder of Will Davison finding the wall in the exact same spot following his win in 2013.
Championship leader Matt Payne followed Kostecki home to take second place, while Cam Waters completed the podium in third.
Chaz Mostert led the charge for Toyota, crossing the line in fourth place, finishing just ahead of Payne’s teammate, Kai Allen, in fifth.
It was an uncharacteristically quiet weekend for Triple Eight Race Engineering. Broc Feeney finished the race in sixth place. The 23-year-old entered the weekend as the championship leader but now trails Payne by 92 points in the standings.
The Repco Supercars Championship will resume at the end of the month as the series heads west to Perth. The Bosch Power Tools Perth Super 440 is scheduled to take place from July 31 to August 2 at MotorMall.com.au Raceway in Wanneroo.
