It’s that exciting time of year again! We’re chatting with Bronte Dagg of Queensland, one of the 28 remarkable and accomplished women from diverse backgrounds vying for the title of Miss Universe Australia 2024. The winner is set to be crowned in the Grand Ballroom at Crown Perth on the 5th of September.
I am originally from rural NSW, Armidale to be specific, but have moved to Brisbane to study towards becoming a doctor one day. I’ve done a few years in a pre-medicine degree and am now studying an economics degree to understand how to run and own my own practices. I am also a national equestrian show rider (competing successfully at EKKA this week) as well as a coach to younger riders looking to improve in the show horse world. I also own two of my own businesses currently, which keeps me incredibly busy. I’d describe myself as ambitious (a big part of why I’m doing Miss Universe), goal-driven, and I want to be known as someone who strives to make a difference.
Miss Universe seemed like the perfect opportunity for me to meet some incredible people—the girls, owners, and sponsors—while also embarking on a journey of self-empowerment. As ambition is a massive character trait of mine, I like to keep my plate full, and Miss Universe seemed like the perfect combination of experience and opportunity.
Having our trip planned and put together by incredibly generous sponsors was an unbelievably incredible experience. As someone who never really thought to travel to Vietnam in the near future, the experience was definitely surprising and worthwhile. Vietjet gave us teddy bears on the international flight, which calmed my flight nerves for sure! The Hoiana golf resort had the most incredible facilities, and we were blessed enough to stay for more than a week, so we made it (mostly) around every part of the massive resort. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
The highlight of my trip was our charity visit to Hearing and Beyond, a school for deaf children that is completely funded by donations. I was privileged enough to learn some Vietnamese sign language, which I have still remembered to this day—an unmatched and valuable experience for me.
Trying every sort of Vietnamese delicacy I could. I got to try so many different foods and meals whilst being at the resort. For me, this was totally different and took a little bit of convincing but was ultimately so worth it.
Go for it, because you won’t regret trying and failing, but you’ll always regret not trying at all. This has been my mindset for the past few years now, and it has thrown me into some incredible experiences that I previously would’ve denied myself solely based on the fear of not doing as well as desired. I have learned from every experience I’ve taken part in.
All the girls in the program are incredible, but I believe what sets me apart is that I am driven to achieve the best possible outcome and better myself in every aspect of everything that I do. From being a multiple business owner to a competitive equestrian, as well as a coach and studying on top of that all, I can comfortably say Miss Universe is another element I will take in my stride with the utmost effort in order to get the most out of the experience!
I am a country girl, which surprises a lot of people because of how well I can fit into a city environment too!
I would one day like to be a part of the Doctors Without Borders international program, which provides healthcare to many people who, without it, wouldn’t have access to healthcare at all.
Being able to do 10 things at once—give me more free time at the end of the day!
Driven the North Coast 500 route in Scotland.
Controversial, but chicken nuggets dipped in chocolate sundae (you’ve got to try it before you hate on it, I promise).
Healing for sure. I would use it to cure as many illnesses as I could in the time I had it! I feel this is definitely the way to a better world!
Bronte, along with the other Miss Universe Australia Finalists, has collectively raised over $500,000 to support ToyBox and its official 2024 charities: Camp Quality and Ronald McDonald House. You can donate now using the link below.
