Today we are catching up with Elissa Laforce of New South Wales, one of the 27 talented and inspiring women from all walks of life who are hoping to be crowned Miss Universe Australia 2022.
So Elissa, why don’t you tell us a little about yourself?
Hello! I was born and raised in southwestern Sydney. I am Belgian and Italian background; this means growing up surrounded by lots of love, Elvis records, Nonna’s lasagne/pizza/pasta and, of course- I can’t forget the homemade Belgian waffles.
I have a bachelor’s in Design, currently working for an Aussie brand as a Social/Digital marketing coordinator and in-house model.
When I’m not working- you’ll find me jamming out to any form of music, most likely eating the biggest bowl of pasta I can find.
We all have motivations, mine usually around good coffee, but what was your key motivation for entering Miss Universe Australia?
My top motivations would have to be my mum and my incredible support circle. Being my second time in the program, I found that it’s absolutely vital that I surrounded myself with people that keep me motivated. An absolute must is also checking in with myself. Making sure that I’m doing the best I can each and every day.
As part of the program, you recently spent time in our hometown of the Gold Coast with the Village Roadshow team; what was the experience like?
Being my second year in a row! I’ll use the same word, to sum up the trip year on year, and that word is INCREDIBLE.
I absolutely loved it! From all the thrilling shows/rides at movie world to the dinners with the MUA team each night. Truly one lucky gal!
What would you say was the highlight of your trip?
It’s going to be hard to narrow it down; there were so many! I would have to say my highlight was being able to shoot with Jarrad again, he’s such an awesome photographer. My shoot was by the water on the beach, I’ve never felt so liberated, and it felt like I was exactly where I needed to be. The Miss Universe team are incredible. I can’t wait to see the final shots.
With everyone bringing their own unique and individual flair to the program, what is something that sets you apart from the other contestants?
I’ve always made a promise to myself. To just be me in each and every situation life throws at me. I’m compassionate, strong-willed and a little goofy! I am me, and that’s my power.
I do have a pretty cool last name, not to toot my own horn here!
It’s Laforce- so that technically means I’m THE FORCE to watch out for!
Your next question comes from our current Miss Universe Australia, Daria Varlamova; in your opinion, what are the most essential qualities that a Miss Universe Australia embodies?
Self-assurance. Being confident and comfortable in your skin because you know and are aware of your abilities. that you are your own power in each and every situation life throws at you.
I also believe being present/hearing what others have to say as well as being empathetic comes into play as well. Being able to listen and be empathetic toward people is such a beautiful and important quality.
Now travel is back on the cards; where is your favourite place to travel to?
I can’t wait to travel back to Europe! To enjoy a European summer in Italy sipping on an Aperol spritz (now that’s the dream!)
What is something people may find interesting about you?
I’m a twin! Fraternal twin, to be exact- I mean, I am the older twin by 14 mins (I had to put that out there!) My twin brother and I share a really special and close bond. I think twin telepathy is totally a thing!
Tell us something you’re passionate about and why?
I’ve always been extremely passionate about creating awareness and education around breast cancer. Breast cancer has been a part of my immediate family’s lives for many years now. I decided to act on this and become an NBCF ambassador. Becoming an ambassador has definitely been a highlight of this year. Breast cancer needs to be spoken about, and the best form of knowledge always starts with awareness.
