Ellen Schembri - Miss Universe Australia Finalist Interview

The search to find the next Miss Universe Australia is underway, with National finalists preparing to touch down in Melbourne later this month ahead of the national finals held at the Sofitel on Collins June 28.

We are chatting with Ellen Schembri, from NT who will be competing for the 2018 title of Miss Universe Australia.

So why don’t you tell our readers a little about yourself?

I’m an adventurous person who prefers to be outside surrounded by nature exploring what this beautiful country has to offer. I love my home in the Territory and enjoy sharing with social media all my favourite adventuring locations. I love my gym, and enjoy heavy lifting every now and then, as well as weekend camping trips with friends.

So you’ve just returned from the Miss Universe Finalists trip to the Amazing Allia Hotels in Bali… How was the experience?

It was beyond amazing. I have no words to describe how lucky and spoilt we were by Alila hotels. We have come away with so many memories and things to talk about. I think the trip is honestly the best thing, being able to get to know 31 other beautiful contestants in such a place of serenity.

We know there was an amazing program of things for you all, what was your highlight?

Being someone who comes from no modelling background, the highlight was the photo shoot day and getting a taste of what all of that is like. I really loved it.

So now you’re home and having undergone the best prep we can think of you know the sun, surf and Bali …. it’s not long till the national finals in Melb… how are you feeling in the lead-up and what sort of preparation are you doing, before finals week commences?

Keeping in a positive mindset, and just staying as focused as I can on my goals

With so many of you all bringing an individual flair to the competition, what do you think will set you apart from the other contestants?

I bring a passion and love for this country, and it lands. I adventure as much as I can juggling work and getting out there to see beautiful places because that’s where My happiness is. I share this with my social media, encouraging people to come and see the territory and its treasures. I feel people forget just how fantastic this place is and it’s my passion to share it with others.

Speaking of being unique we all have different motivations, what is something that motivates you daily or you would say is your passion?

Photography and capturing beautiful places and experiences on camera. My passion is to chuck a pair of headphones on and go hiking in some amazing place and just take the beauty in. At the end of every hard week of work, that’s what I look forward mostly too.

What is something people might find interesting about yourself?

I enjoy heavy lifting at the gym.

Where is your favourite place in the world to wind down and relax?

Any beach in the world, any place away from day to day life would help me wind down and relax

The Miss Universe program has a long and proud history and focuses on helping women become the best versions of themselves, how do you think your experience so far will help move you forward in life?

I’ve already got a more mature mindset on my goals in life and how I’ll attain them.

Name five things you can’t live without?

Gym, headphones, Hair styler, Phone, Eyebrow Pencil ?

How would your closest friend describe you?

Weird in the best way possible ?

What’s my career goal?

I would love to work for Tourism Australia, if not tourism NT as my passion is promoting this amazing place we all call home and sharing that passion with the rest of the world.
