Fiji Airways will launch direct flights between the Gold Coast and Nadi from June this year, marking a significant expansion of the airline’s Australian network.
The new route, announced in December, will operate three times weekly on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays using Boeing 737-MAX 8 aircraft. The inaugural service is scheduled for Thursday, 11 June 2026.
The Gold Coast becomes Fiji Airways’ seventh Australian destination, with flights operating in just over three hours. The route will bring an additional 53,000 seats into the market annually.
Fiji Airways Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Paul Scurrah said the Gold Coast was a natural fit for the airline.
“The Gold Coast is a thriving hub for tourism, business, and major global events, and its population and infrastructure growth make it an increasingly important part of Australia’s future,” Scurrah said.
“This new direct service strengthens ties between Fiji and Australia, unlocking significant opportunities for both outbound and inbound travel.”
Queensland Airports Limited CEO Amelia Evans said the route would open the Gold Coast to the world.
“What’s particularly exciting about this route is that, on top of gaining another spectacular holiday destination for locals, this connection with Fiji will further open up the Gold Coast to the world,” she said.
“Fiji Airways has strong links into the United States and Canada, so this service will also give travellers the option to fly from North America to the Gold Coast via Fiji.
“It’s estimated inbound travel from this route will contribute more than $51 million to the local economy each year.”
The schedule offers connections through Fiji Airways’ Nadi hub to destinations including Dallas Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Vancouver and Honolulu, as well as Pacific Island and Asian destinations.
Queensland Tourism Minister Andrew Powell said the Crisafulli Government supported the route through Destination 2045’s Connecting Queensland Fund.
“The Fiji-Gold Coast route opens new pathways through the USA and Canada via Nadi, bringing tens of thousands of travellers right to our doorstep,” Minister Powell said.
“That $51 million boost to our economy will go straight to our local cafes, hotels and experience operators who make our state the true home of the holiday, all while supporting more than 100 direct jobs.”
The new service is expected to enhance inbound travel to the Gold Coast ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.
Scurrah said the airline was excited to bring its service to the Gold Coast.
“We are delighted to offer travellers in the Gold Coast a faster, direct link to Fiji for holidays, family visits and business, while also providing convenient one-stop connections to North America, the Pacific and parts of Asia through our Nadi hub,” he said.
