The countdown to the 2026 Bonsoy Gold Coast Pro just got a new official timekeeper.
Today, the World Surf League (WSL) announced a new partnership with Breitling, with the Swiss watchmaker joining as the Official Timing Partner of WSL Australia for the upcoming Bonsoy Gold Coast Pro at Snapper Rocks. The deal will run for three years, taking the partnership through to at least 2028, and positions Breitling inside one of the most anticipated windows on the Australian competitive surf calendar.
With 2026 marking “the 50th year of crowning World Champions”, the return of the Bonsoy Gold Coast Pro to Snapper Rocks is being framed as a moment built for precision, and the WSL is leaning into that message from day one.
“In the 50th year of crowning World Champions, the Bonsoy Gold Coast Pro will return to Snapper Rocks, a perfect wave that demands precision and timing,” said WSL APAC President Andrew Stark. “Breitling’s heritage of performance, innovation, and authentic connection to surf and ocean culture make it a natural partner for the World Surf League. We’re proud to welcome Breitling as Official Timing Partner of the Bonsoy Gold Coast Pro and as an Official WSL Australia Partner.”
The announcement outlines an on-the-ground and on-air presence for Breitling across the event period, with activations planned at Snapper Rocks throughout the Bonsoy Gold Coast Pro window, alongside broadcast integrations during the competition. While the WSL has not detailed the format of those activations in this release, the intent is clear: make the partnership visible where the story is being told, on the point and across the coverage.
From Breitling’s side, the partnership is being presented as a natural fit between elite performance and a surf lifestyle that values confidence and connection to the elements. The brand’s messaging also points to the cultural weight of surfing in this region.
“Surfing reflects precision, performance, and excellence, values deeply rooted in Breitling’s DNA, while also embodying a sense of freedom and ease that defines our relaxed approach to luxury,” said Lars Summers. “With its unique cultural significance in Australia and New Zealand, surfing speaks to a lifestyle shaped by authenticity, confidence, and a connection to the elements. Through our World Surf League partnership and ambassadors, these values come to life beyond watchmaking, expressed through the athletes and moments defining modern surf culture.”
The Bonsoy Gold Coast Pro is scheduled to run at Snapper Rocks from May 1 to 11, 2026, placing it firmly in the part of the year where conditions can turn a heat into a game of fine margins. It is a venue and a wave that has built a reputation on speed, timing, and split-second decision-making, and the WSL is clearly positioning this partnership around that same idea.
For a sport measured in fractions, where a completed manoeuvre can come down to a section appearing at the last possible moment, “timing” is more than a sponsor category. It is a theme that naturally fits the rhythm of competition, the pressure of a set approaching the line-up, and the calm required to commit when it matters most.
