In a holy trinity of 90s Hip Hop royalty, Ice Cube, Cypress Hill, and The Game have announced fresh tour dates for Australia. They’ll be teaming up to bring four massive arena shows to Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane in March 2023; fans can expect an explosive show packed with the iconic and timeless rhymes they all know and love.
O’Shea Jackson Sr., AKA Ice Cube, is an American rapper, actor, filmmaker, and one of the most influential names in hip hop, His lyrics on N.W.A‘s 1988 album Straight Outta Compton were instrumental in gangsta rap becoming popular around the world, including the iconic hit nwa’s fuck tha police and his politically-driven solo albums AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted, Death Certificate, and The Predator gained critical and commercial success. In addition to his perhaps equally iconic career in film, Ice Cube’s musical victories saw him inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the group N.W.A. in 2016.
This will be Cube’s first show in the country since making history in 2018 as the first-ever rap artist to headline at the Sydney Opera House, “I love performing in Australia. It’s been four long years since my last visit, and I can’t wait to return for a couple of history-making shows,” says Mr Cube.
Known for captivating millions of listeners, Cypress Hill has a massive array of fans around the world thanks to its sensational stage show. The California rap group ushered in a new genre of hip-hop, performing thousands of shows at a time when rappers were having a hard time getting booked and one of the driving forces for rappers to use Spanish in their rhymes.
Along the way, they earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, sold more than 9 million albums, and were nominated for three Grammy Awards. Another anniversary, next year will be 30 years since the crew released their album, Black Sunday, which features, ‘Hits from the Bong,’ and ‘I Ain’t Goin’ Out Like That.’
Completing the killer lineup is double-platinum artist The Game. Emerging in the early 2000s as one of the rawest voices on the West Coast scene, combining intense autobiographical narratives and a creatively referential approach to hip-hop that has justified his stage name.
The international hip-hop heavyweights will be joined by exciting homegrown Australian talent, still to be announced.
