Well here in Queensland we’ve just wrapped up another sensational Summertime the weather is sparkling, and the search for the next Miss Universe Australia is heading our way with finalists being announced across the country now.
We thought we would kick off our home state interviews with Jane Houston.
Congratulations on making it through to the state finals, why don’t you tell us about yourself?
Heeeello! I’m Jane, and I am 20 years old from Brissy. Currently, I am a holistic health coach and am about to start my study to become a nutritionist. In my spare time, I love to hang out at the gym or check out a new barre or pilates class. I also love spending time writing for my blog, Haven of Health. A fun fact about me is that I am the biggest little bookworm!
We all have motivations, Mine usually revolves around coffee ? but what was your key motivation for entering the Miss Universe Australia competition?
I think coffee is a pretty good motivation…but not so much for this competition ? My motivation for entering Miss Universe Australia stemmed from the realisation that I had never put myself out of my comfort zone before! It’s so easy to go about your daily life and forget that you are actually capable of doing and learning so much more along the way! I knew this competition would be the perfect way for me to become more confident in my own skin, so I wanted in!
What part of the Miss Universe Australia program are you most looking forward to?
The parts I’m most looking forward to in this competition are definitely the public speaking and networking. I’m super excited to engage with people and throw myself into new experiences.
We are all unique so what would you say is something that makes you stand out from the other contestants?
I looove that we are all unique! That’s what is so amazing about this competition. The girls’ are so much more than just being beautiful. I think my bubbly, positive energy is definitely one of my most substantial assets.

With the state finals, only a few days away, has your routine changed at all?
I live quite an active, healthy lifestyle so my routine hasn’t changed too much. I’m just focusing on keeping my routine up and staying happy and positive.
What is something that you hope to bring out of the Miss Universe Australia pageant?
I hope to bring greater confidence and a whole lot of fun out of the Miss Universe Australia pageant. I think it’s so important not to get caught up in the competition aspect, and remember you can gain so much more from the experience!
What is the funniest thing that has happened to you recently?
I’ve definitely had my fair share of public falls…especially in heels!
How would your closest friend describe you?
My closest friend would probably describe me as the person who says the silliest things, is incredibly indecisive and terrible at taking boy advice.
Name five things you can’t live without?
I can’t live without veggies, books, my boyfriend, chocolate and Baywatch the movie…it’s an addiction.
What is your dream career path?
My dream career is definitely working with young children and teenagers teaching them about proper nutrition and healthy living. It’s shocking how many people go through life and never consider or appreciate their health until it’s too late. I would love to work on raising awareness and appreciation for the value of our health and would love to ingrain this in the younger generation. Being healthy is key to living our happiest life and who doesn’t want to live in a world where everyone is happier!!
