Today we are catching up with Khloe Hicks of Western Australia, one of the 24 talented and inspiring women from all walks of life who are hoping to be crowned Miss Universe Australia 2023 at The Sofitel Melbourne on Collins this Friday.
So, Khloe why don’t you tell us a little about yourself?
I am a 24-year-old native of Perth. Over the years, I have been lucky enough to live in a few fascinating places such as Italy, New York, and Sydney. However, I couldn’t be happier to be back home in WA. I currently work as a Public Relations and Event Coordinator, a role that I love and look forward to progressing in. I am just about to complete my Diploma in Fashion Business from The Fashion Institute, and I am excited to continue learning more about the fashion industry. Having participated in a high school exchange to Italy at 15 and lived in New York as an au pair at 18, I love to travel. I have a bucket list of travel destinations, and I’m determined to visit each one!
We all have motivations, mine usually around good coffee, but what was your key motivation for entering Miss Universe Australia?
Every amazing experience I have had in my life stemmed from challenging myself, pushing my boundaries, and venturing out of my comfort zone. Miss Universe Australia was just another shot at something great – another chance for a rewarding experience. As the competition wraps up, I can say with full confidence that it’s been a ride I’ll never forget – way beyond what I expected, in the best way possible.
As part of the program, you recently went on the National Finalist Trip to Vietnam at Furama Resort Da Nang, what was the experience like?
The trip was incredible; every morning felt like a ‘pinch me’ moment! The resort was absolutely stunning, and the warm weather was a nice change from the Australian winter. The experience exceeded any expectations I had and will be a trip I’ll never forget. The Miss Universe Australia team went above and beyond to make sure we all felt comfortable and supported, and that we each enjoyed our time in Vietnam. We were also incredibly fortunate to be able to share this experience with the Miss Universe Singapore National Finalists as well. The opportunity to connect with all the Singaporean girls made the trip extra special!
What would you say was the highlight of your trip?
There were so many moments that I could choose from between the swim shoots and the welcome dinner, as we were spoiled with memorable moments. However, the volleyball tournament stands out as a definite highlight for me. After we arrived, the following afternoon was all about hitting the beach for a volleyball tournament. We spent the afternoon on the beach playing volleyball, relaxing, and really bonding. Everyone got involved, making it such an enjoyable afternoon, and it gave us the perfect opportunity to get to know each other better.
If you could ask our current Miss Universe Australia, Monique Riley, one question, what would it be and why?
If you could have your time as Miss Universe Australia again, is there anything you would do differently and why?
Becoming Miss Universe Australia is not only a unique opportunity, but also a learning experience. Hearing about the experiences of past titleholders and understanding their reflections on what they might have approached differently provides valuable insights for the upcoming Miss Universe Australia.
Tell us something you’re passionate about and why?
I am incredibly passionate about my job! I love that it gives me the opportunity to connect with people from all over, get involved with different communities, and collaborate with others to achieve a shared goal. Bringing a client’s vision to life is both rewarding and exciting, and I love being able to flex my creative muscles, constantly coming up with new and exciting ways we can help someone execute their idea. Teaming up with diverse individuals and clients who each have their own unique ideas means no day is ever the same.
To finish up the interview we have a few quick questions
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Italy or New York City
What’s your ideal way to spend a day off?
Some form of workout in the morning, either Pilates or a beach walk, followed by a matcha latte and breakfast at my local café. Then spend time with friends and family before heading out for dinner and a drink with my partner!
What makes you laugh out loud?
