Miss Universe Aus QLD Finalist interview - Hannah Mcdonald

Well, it’s that time of year when the search to find Miss Universe Australia is well underway with State finals kicking off across the country.
Later this month at the Hotel Grand Chancellor , Surfers Paradise the judging panel will select the Queensland representatives in the 2015 Pageant.

Starting off our state finalist interviews we chat with Hannah Mcdonald one of the contestants who will be competing for a place in the national final held on June 5 at the Sofitel Melbourne on Collins where the countries finalists will be competing for the 2015 title.

Congratulations on Making it so far in the coveted miss universe Australia competition tell us a little about yourself …?
Thank you so much! Well, my name is Hannah McDonald and I am currently in my third year of study at the University of Queensland. At the moment I have ambitions to eventually specialize in oncology or surgery, but being so indecisive I’ll be keeping an open-mind throughout my studies. I made a huge move in 2013 from a small rural town called Proserpine, in the Whitsundays. With the population of just over 3000, this was a life-changing decision. Upon moving, I opened up a world of opportunity and gave myself a chance to pursue my dreams. While I live a fast paced life involving a full-on degree, scientific research, hospital volunteer work and a gym addiction, I try to cling on to my down to earth and small-town girl mentality.

Who or what inspired you to get involved in the Miss Universe Australia Pageant …? What drew you to such a competition …. ?

The Miss universe Australia Pageant has always intrigued me, giving Australia the opportunity to portray itself more accurately. With relatives overseas I get asked unusual questions such as, “So do you guys ride kangaroo’s around?” I think Australia has been portrayed in the past, as slightly backwards. I’d love the opportunity to promote our wonderful country with poise, intelligence and compassion.

Speaking of inspiration who inspires you most …?

As cliche as it sounds, my parents. They solely embody everything I aspire to. The resilience and passion they often exemplify, inspires me on a daily basis.

If you are successful in the pageant you will become a possible inspiration or role model to many young girls how does this sit with you …? And what do you consider are the attributes of a good role model …?

I think this would be one of the main appeals of a successful outcome in the Miss Universe Australia Pageant. I believe that there are very few genuinely positive role models for young girls in today’s society. I believe a good role model should promote the virtues of integrity and selflessness. A good role model should inspire the youth of today to be true to who they are and really embrace their natural, positive attributes. Contemporary western society has set unrealistic expectations for these young people that can often steer them in the wrong direction. Additionally I believe a good role model should be a spokesperson for minorities, who otherwise wouldn’t be heard.

The Miss Universe Pageant has a long history of associating with charity are their any social causes that are particularly close to your heart that you would like to  use the platform of miss universe to advance …?

Only recently my grandfather was diagnosed with a dysfunctional heart. At this point their isn’t much that health professionals can do for him. I believe the “Medical Research Charity” and similar organizations has been marginalized, as they don’t provide instantaneous solutions. I think that if this charity could be promoted, more money would be raised and invested into long-term solutions that may one day save our loved ones.

What do you think will set you out from the rest  of the entrants competing in the 2015 competition …?

I think that the messages I want to send and my genuine nature accurately reflects our beautiful country. I also believe my passion to brighten others days and sincere desire to make a positive impact on others lives, will hopefully resonate with the judges.

What would you say is your best style or beauty secret …?

I honestly believe a lot of an individual’s physical appearance originates from inside their head. The mind is incredibly powerful and I think if you believe you are looking amazing, it really shows! Being comfortable in your own individual style radiates confidence and beauty. I also can’t go without my Elucent skincare products, which keep my skin looking fresh and immaculate.

And speaking of personal style fitness is fast becoming more and more a part of the person’s personal style … how would you describe your fitness regime …?
I can confess that I am a gym-addict. I have learnt so much about the benefits of high intensity interval training, that I just can’t go without. I try to workout in between my busy schedule about 4 times a week. I find these little sessions clear my head and the endorphins aren’t too bad either.

We all have a personal saying or particular mantra what would you say yours is ..?   “Everything happens for a reason”. I believe in fate and this saying has helped me through a lot of disappointments and low points in my life. If you believe you are destined to follow a particular path, this mantra can console you and promote the hope of other doors opening, when one closes

Now the Quick 5
