Miss Universe Aus QLD Finalist interview - Holly James

Well, it’s that time of year when the search to find Miss Universe Australia is well underway with State finals kicking off across the country.
Later this month at the Hotel Grand Chancellor , Surfers Paradise the judging panel will select the Queensland representatives in the 2015 Pageant.

Starting off our state finalist interviews we chat with Holly James one of the contestants who will be competing for a place in the national final held on June 5 at the Sofitel Melbourne on Collins where the countries finalists will be competing for the 2015 title.

Congratulations on Making it so far in the coveted miss universe Australia competition tell us a little about yourself …?

Thankyou! I am really excited to be a part of the competition. I am an active girl from the Gold Coast- I live by the water and spend most of my spare time outdoors. I love fitness, fashion and food, and also travel. Travelling has both fuelled my sense of adventure, and opened my eyes to how fortunate I am to be living in Australia. I work in office administration, but am also involved in athletics coaching and modelling.

Who or what inspired you to get involved in the Miss Universe Australia Pageant …? What drew you to such a competition ….

I love the idea of being able to represent my country and becoming a positive role model for young women. Combine this with my passion for health, beauty and fitness and the Miss Universe competition just seemed like the perfect opportunity!

Speaking of inspiration who inspires you most …?

I am a big believer in living a healthy and active lifestyle, and therefore someone who has always inspired me is Lorna Jane Clarkson. Her brand encourages and motivates women to look after their bodies by becoming more active in day to day life. Helping women with health and fitness

is something that I really enjoy.

If you are successful in the pageant you will become a possible inspiration or role model to many young girls how does this sit with you …? And what do you consider are the attributes of a good role model …?

I am really excited by the opportunity to become a role model for young women! A good role model should portray a positive image, through conducting themselves with grace and professionalism, and looking after their own body in a healthy way. I am so passionate about not resorting to crash diets or weight loss pills etc to conform to society’s idea of “beautiful”. Demonstrating good health habits is something I believe I can show young women in today’s society.

The Miss Universe Pageant has a long history of associating with charity are their any social causes that are particularly close to your heart that you would like to  use the platform of miss universe to advance …?

As I feel very strongly about healthy living, a charity that I would like to support in the future is The Butterfly Foundation. This foundation provides support for Australians suffering from eating disorders. I would love to see more funding and exposure for this foundation, so that help is

more readily available for those in need.

What do you think will set you out from the rest  of the entrants competing in the 2015 competition …?

All the entrants competing for the Miss Universe title are such beautiful girls, its going to be a tough competition! I feel that my confidence, outgoing nature and passion for helping people will definitely help me stand out.

What would you say is your best style or beauty secret …?

Start your beauty regime from inside to out! Eating healthy, drinking plenty of water, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep – all these things are just as important for your overall appearance as external skin care and makeup.

And speaking of personal style fitness is fast becoming more and more a part of the person’s personal style … how would you describe your fitness regime …?

Coming from a track and field background, my fitness regime is largely based on sprint training and functional weight training. I also incorporate stretching and yoga, as well as fun activities like stand up paddle boarding and bike riding.

We all have a personal saying or particular mantra what would you say yours is ..? Be grateful for all that you have, because there are always others less fortunate.

Now the Quick 5

1. What is something people might find interesting about yourself …? I have been involved at an international level in athletics.

2. Your favourite place in the world to wind down and relax ..? In a hammock by the beach with a good book.

What song would you say is  your personal anthem or theme song …? Sunday Morning – Maroon 5

If you could give yourself one piece of advice 5 years ago what would it be …?

Don’t worry so much about what other people think. Just focus on what makes you happy!

and What are five things in your life you just can’t live without …?

Family, friends, music, laughter and cheesecake!
