Miss Universe Aus QLD Finalist interview - Perina Drummond

Well, it’s that time of year when the search to find Miss Universe Australia is well underway with State finals kicking off across the country.
Later this month at the Hotel Grand Chancellor , Surfers Paradise the judging panel will select the Queensland representatives in the 2015 Pageant.

Starting off our state finalist interviews we chat with Perina Drummond one of the contestants who will be competing for a place in the national final held on June 5 at the Sofitel Melbourne on Collins where the countries finalists will be competing for the 2015 title.

Congratulations on Making it so far in the coveted miss universe Australia competition tell us a little about yourself …?

Thanks so much! I’m so excited to be part of Miss Universe Australia 2015! I was born and raised in Far North Queensland, though have called Brisbane home since I was 12. Love adventure and travel, and try to do both when I can. I currently work within the Department of Health as a Project Officer part of the Surgery Connect team. We aim to significantly reduce treatment times for elective surgery patients through public-private partnerships and improved access to surgical services. I also do modelling and fashion design in my free time. I hope to develop a career in fashion and one day start my own label.

Who or what inspired you to get involved in the Miss Universe Australia Pageant …? What drew you to such a competition ….?

My day to day job involves providing better healthcare for people so I admire the pageant’s community involvement to work with charity organisations. It is a window of many opportunities, and I am learning more about myself everyday. For example, I never thought I’d be doing an interview for a magazine, but here I am! I’ve formed many friendships in the pageant and look forward to many more as the competition continues. This is the first pageant I’ve been involved in, so it’s a new learning experience for me!

Speaking of inspiration who inspires you most …?

To name one that has most inspired me is so hard! Audrey Hepburn is one of many. She was naturally beautiful, and a legend in her own right as an actor and fashion icon. She worked with charity organisations in her later years. She once said ‘the most important thing is to enjoy life – to be happy – it’s all that matters.’, something I remind myself of from time to time.

If you are successful in the pageant you will become a possible inspiration or role model to many young girls how does this sit with you …? And what do you consider are the attributes of a good role model …?

I believe my journey so far has inspired many young girls. I have four younger sisters so I’ve always been a role model to them. I would be absolutely honoured to continue to be a role model and inspiration to many more!

Some attributes that I consider for a good role model include having ambition and self-confidence, passionate about what they do, have the ability to inspire others and be inspired by others, being involved in the community and having the ability to overcoming obstacles.

The Miss Universe Pageant has a long history of associating with charity are their any social causes that are particularly close to your heart that you would like to  use the platform of miss universe to advance …?

I would like to use the platform of Miss Universe to continue my support for Children’s health. I would also like to advance in the field of Mental health and well-being.

What do you think will set you out from the rest  of the entrants competing in the 2015 competition …?

Being older than most of the entrants definitely sets me out from the rest of the competition – definitely more pressure I think! 🙂

What would you say is your best style or beauty secret …?  My beauty secrets are having a good night’s sleep and to always smile! 😀

And speaking of personal style fitness is fast becoming more and more a part of the person’s personal style … how would you describe your fitness regime …?

I’ve always been fairly active and have had a well-balanced diet, so to no surprise it’s a daily routine for me. If I’m not working, I’ll definitely be out and about with friends bushwalking, rock climbing etc., you won’t find me in front of a TV. Having a well balanced diet is very important!

We all have a personal saying or particular mantra what would you say yours is ..?

Do everything with so much love in your heart that you would never want to do it it any other way.

Now the Quick 5

1. What is something people might find interesting about yourself …?

You always find me doing something adventurous when I have a spare moment!

2. Your favourite place in the world to wind down and relax ..?

My Hammock 😀

What song would you say is  your personal anthem or theme song …?

I’m liking the new Taylor Swift song Style at the moment.

If you could give yourself one piece of advice 5 years ago what would it be …? It’s going to be one hell of a ride, enjoy it, don’t be too hard on yourself and every now and then take a moment to admire the view from up top of the mountains that you’ll climb

and What are five things in your life you just can’t live without …?

Google, a good pair of heels, family and friends, laughter and my toothbrush 😀
