The search to find the next Miss Universe Australia is underway, with National finalists preparing to touch down in Melbourne later this month ahead of the national finals held at the Sofitel on Collins June 29.

We are chatting with Jordy Kuriata, from Western Australia who will be competing for the 2017 title of Miss Universe Australia,

Following in the footsteps of Jennifer Hawkins, Rachael Finch, Tegan Martin & Jesinta Campbell.

First of all the introduction, Why don’t you tell us about yourself?

Hello! My name is Jordy Kuriata. I am 20 years old, from Perth Western Australia. Being blessed with a loving family who has shaped me into the person I am today, my friends and my family are a huge priority in my life.

I feel I am a very down to earth person, what you see is what you get with me. Also quite a dare devil at times, always looking to push myself out of my comfort zone and do things I have never done before. That’s what excites me about life.

I enjoy adventures and the thrill of new challenges however I still consider myself having a rather chilled nature. I take everything as it comes and I try not to take life too seriously. Being a laid back girl with the strongest of morals on natural beauty. I believe that every girl young or old is beautiful, we should embrace our natural beauty, and never feel we have to hide behind a mask of makeup.

During the past six months, I have been fortunate to have been involved in an exciting new project with Perth-based brand Cocobella Lifestyle. Together we have designed an amazing new swim collection that launches globally online early July. This opportunity is a dream come true for me.

Having just returned from a fantastic three week Sei Bella campaign shoot in Bali and the Gili Islands with an awesome young Perth creative team having the time of our lives, we are now preparing to embark on another trip to Positano on the Amalfi Coast of Italy. Exciting opportunities ahead.

Jordy Congratulations on making it so far in the such a coveted competition, we have to ask how the overall experience has been so far?

Thank you so much! This experience has been incredible! I never expected to get this far, but my achievements have kept surprising me! The competition has been such a huge learning curve for me; I feel I have really developed as a person thru out this journey. I have become more confident in myself. The experience has been so wonderful. Meeting the other competitors and getting to know their personalities really helps you stay true to yourself, as every girl is different and unique in their own way.

We have just heard you returned from the Intercontinental Resort in Bali as part of the program, How was the experience and what would you say was your highlight?

Yes, we did! The experience was amazing! Just being in Bali with all the girls, in general, was incredible. Getting to meet everyone from each state and realising how beautiful and unique they all were. Everyone made me feel so warm and comfortable. All the activities and dinners provided were amazing. A group of lucky girls that’s for sure!

I also really enjoyed Tegan and Nia’s confidence speech. Knowing that they had been thru the steps that we are going thru now, explaining it with such ease and confidence, really made me see this competition in a different light, knowing that each one of us girls has a chance to win the crown. Their speeches brought out the confidence in each and every one of us; they are both great role models.

The one highlight of the Bali trip for me was going to the Bali life foundation and experiencing a couple of hours with these wonderful children. It really made me appreciate life to the fullest seeing these kids having so much fun. Huge smiles on their faces, a very heart warming experience.

It’s not long now until the finals, how are you feeling in the lead-up and what sort of preparation are you doing, before the finals get underway?

Crazy how fast time has gone by! I am so exited, I thrive on the adrenalin rush I get from being a part of something like this! Knowing that I have so much support from my family and friends makes me more confident. I am so lucky to have so many family members support what I do; they are all coming over to Melbourne for the final. Just knowing that I have them all in the crowd makes me feel so much more at ease. The preparation I have been doing is eating clean, being active and just keeping my mind open. I have been taking the competition one step at a time, whatever happens, will happen on the day, and I will be proud no matter what.

With so many women all bring their individual flare to the competition, what do you think will set you apart from the other contestants?

All the women are so beautiful and unique in their own way. It really depends on what the judges are looking for at the time and who they feel will represent Australia the best. I believe that I can be a great role model for the younger and older girls out there. I love Australia. I’m a true blue down to earth Aussie girl. I am accepting of everyone no matter what their life’s circumstances may be. I remain true to myself and my morals; I wouldn’t change that for the world, integrity is of most importance to me.

Speaking of unique flare or style what would you say is your best style or beauty secret?

My increasing creativity! I always dress for comfort and love to mix things up! I hate being uncomfortable! I am a very outgoing girl, and I love going to events and embracing my personality through my outfits. I feel my personality shows thru my style. I am all for colours too. My wardrobe is very coloured, and I love patterns. Dressing a little crazy for music festivals is also fun. At home, I am always la natural!

What inspired you to enter in the Miss Universe Australia pageant?

I entered miss universe Australia for the experience. I have never done anything like this before, and this is where my daring personality comes into it. I just wanted to try something new and push myself!! So I did, and it has truly been the greatest experience, I am so happy that I pushed myself to do it as there were moments where I did have my doubts. However looking to where I am now, with a bunch of new friends and great life memories I will always treasure. I wouldn’t change a thing. I have loved every moment, and I would certainly encourage other girls to embark on this journey.

Speaking of inspiration who or what inspires you most?

I love to see people being creative and making the most of every opportunity with the talents they have been given. I truly admire the likes of Elle Macpherson and Jen Hawkins. Both beautiful women, who have established entrepreneurial careers in various fields from their initial modelling and pageant days and remained great role models for young Australian girls like myself. This is what I aspire to be.

What is something people might find interesting about yourself?

I’m a goof ball, and I love to eat! People think models don’t eat! I do. I’m really into different kinds of foods, exploring new tastes and dishes. Another aspect of my adventurous side I guess. I love being goofy around my friends, taking silly pictures and pulling faces, showing the less serious side of myself.

What does the average day look like for you?

I’m crazy busy at the moment preparing for the upcoming trip to Melbourne and for the launch of Sei Bella Aqua Wear early July. Amongst this frenzy, I always try to find time to fit in some sort of exercise as I love to eat! Even though crazy busy, I always find quality time to spend with my family and friends too.

Where is your favourite place in the world to wind down and relax?

My favourite place in the world to wind down and relax would definitely be my local beach, Pinnaroo point. I have been going there ever since I was little and I have fond memories down there of my Granddad and I who has now passed. It is such a beautiful and calm beach. Very quiet, only the sound of waves crashing on the shore. I love it because it has remained pristine and secluded

What is something you find yourself saying all the time?

Something I find myself saying all the time is WHY NOT? I have had a few of my friends come up to me lately asking for my opinion, asking if they should do something or not. I had a thought about it, and I said, what is stopping you? You should give every opportunity that comes your way a go.
I am all for giving every situation ago. So my advice to my friends is always,” WHY NOT?” Just do it

If you could give yourself one piece of advice five years ago what would it be?

The advice that I would have given to myself five years ago is not fall in love so quickly. I have been hurt many times by giving way to much love to people and doing so many things for others and never getting anything back in return. I am still such a loving person, and it is a hard thing to change but I think to go through such obstacles has made me a stronger person. I have never been happier. I have stayed true to myself and have tried so hard not to let people walk over me all the time, as that is what I struggled with a couple of years ago. I am a very loving loyal person and love getting that love in return.

And finally what are the five things you couldn’t live without?

Five things that I couldn’t live without is my beautiful family; they are my biggest support with whatever I do.
Love.
The ocean. Water, makes me feel happy and healthy.
My friends.
Oh and can I add ice cream…… ???
